Dollar store Halloween decor can be cheap and cheerful, but it can also be elegant and timeless if you know what to look for and how to use it.

I might not normally recommend the dollar store as my first choice for home decor finds, but when it comes to dollar store Halloween decor, you have to hear me out. My opposition to cheap, mass-produced goods is generally that it encourages us to throw things away and be wasteful, rather than looking to find things that we love enough to reuse again year after year. When it comes to Halloween decorations that you might only have out for a couple of weeks out of the year, you don’t really need to worry too much about durability or all-season versatility. Some of the basic, classic items you can find at the dollar store can absolutely become favorites that you save and reuse year after year. You just need to know what types of timeless pieces to look for and how to use them. And that’s where today’s post comes in. Read on for my favorite classic Halloween decor ideas that you can find at the dollar store.

Shopping the Dollar Store for Halloween Decorating Ideas
They definitely have a lot of fun, silly things at the dollar store, but it’s important to keep your eye tuned to things with a nostalgic appeal. You want to find decorative items that are simple, and that you’ll be able to save and reuse to bring the holiday alive in your home every year. It doesn’t matter if an item costs you one dollar or one hundred dollars; if you store it away with care and reuse it with love to create a beautifully spooky home, it will serve you well year after year.
Favorite Dollar Store Halloween Finds
Although I have quite a few dollar store pieces that I pull out every year for Halloween decor, some that I’ve had for almost 15 years now, I do still like to keep my eyes open to add new, classic pieces to my collection whenever they’re available. I was at the dollar store with my son, Jack, a few days ago to grab a couple of little things he needed for school, and we had so much fun looking at all the decorative Halloween items they had this year. I thought I would share a few of my favorites that I saw in the store, as well as some photos of ways that I like to use dollar store Halloween decor in my home year after year.
Dollar Store Crows for Halloween

These faux crows are such an elegant, autumnal option for Halloween decor. They can be used in singles, perched atop a wreath or tucked into a floral arrangement, or grouped on a shelf for a striking, spooky display.

Faux Pumpkins of All Kinds

The dollar store has always had plastic pumpkins that work well for fall decor if you paint them, or get crafty with patterned paper or fabric, but keep an eye out for other options like the stuffed fabric pumpkins above, or the green glass pumpkins, which are really what caught my eye. I would remove the twine from the glass and use this pumpkin as a simple vase or a luminary for a candle. I can see these becoming an eerie favorite that would be used year after year.

Seasonal Twinkle Lights

Battery-operated twinkle lights are fun any time of year, but they’re especially magical during the holidays that happen in the “ber” months. There isn’t much difference at all between dollar store twinkle lights and the ones you find at the craft store other than, of course, the price! I was delighted to come across these twinkle lights in shades of purple, orange, and green at my local dollar store for less than half the price of others I’ve seen.
Faux Spider Webs

I don’t normally think of these faux spider webs as an ideal Halloween decoration because they usually need to be thrown away at the end of the season, and they can be a bit messy. I do usually like to look for things that I can reuse, but there’s no denying that these make such an impact in a space, indoors or out, for very little money. Maybe a few spider webs every now and then aren’t the end of the world. 🙂
Dollar Store Plastic Spiders

I was hoping to find a bag of these on their own this year for this idea I had to decorate my plate wall, but unfortunately, I was only able to find them in packs with spiderwebs as well. These plastic spiders work well scattered on a scary tablescape, or in a large, bone-chilling group running up a wall or over a console table. A big, slightly unsettling statement for a song. 🙂
Spooky Black Lace Tablecloths

I’ve had my dollar store black lace tablecloths and runners for so many years now, and I really have gotten an incredible amount of use out of them. Of course, they can be used as actual tablecloths, but they’re also so great draped over lampshades, hung over the tops of mirrors, or adorning stair railings for a terrifying, moody accent.

Black Plastic Cauldrons

These would make great party buckets for holding ice and different cold beverages, mini chocolate bars, or treat bags. They’re sturdy enough to be saved for next year and simple enough in design that they’ll never look outdated, no matter how trends change for the little witches, goblins, and ghouls that will be coming to your door.
Giant Outdoor Rope Spiderwebs from the Dollar Store

Do you see these giant spider webs in your neighborhood? I’ve always thought they were so clever and made such a big impression, and I always thought that people were making these frightening outdoor decor pieces on their own using hardware store rope, or buying them in some online shop specializing in Halloween decor. It turns out, they can be found for $5 at the dollar store! Love this look so much.
Black Paper Bats for Halloween Decor

I’ve always loved the look of black paper bat cutouts flying up a wall, but I’ve never tried to recreate the look on my own. These can be cut out of black cardstock that you can find at the dollar store, but I found these at Walmart this year for $2 when Jack and I were browsing through the Halloween section after grocery shopping one day. Not a dollar store find, but a great, easy piece of Halloween decor at dollar store prices!

If You’re Lucky: Classic Nostalgic Halloween Vibes at the Dollar Store

I’m sure not every dollar store has finds this great (these were spotted at Dollarama in Canada), but this is proof that great things can be found if you just look. I love the nostalgic, vintage look of the print on these jack’o lantern tablecloths and I definitely saw a few other decor pieces with the same vibe. This look reminds me of something from Pottery Barn kids, and it just goes to show that a good eye and a strong design vision are more important than a big budget when it comes to any type of home decor.
