Getting your whole house in shape when things are feeling a bit cluttered and chaotic can feel like a really overwhelming task. It may be that you’re really busy and short on time for home keeping tasks, or it may be that you’re just having one of those days (or weeks, or months, or years) where you’re having a hard time working up the motivation to get up and clean. In either of these circumstances, the best course of action is to take the absolute tiniest bit of action that you can. Anyone can do two minutes! You may think that two minute cleaning tasks will be really insignificant and won’t produce any kind of visible results, but just give it a try. It’s only two minutes. You’ll be amazed at what a difference two minutes can make and what you can accomplish in such a short amount of time. You may even find yourself wanting to try another one!

The Two Minute Cleaning Tasks List
Note: If you think that one of these tasks will take you longer than two minutes, that’s OK. Just set a timer for yourself and give yourself permission to stop, step back and admire your work after the two minutes are up, then you can decide if you want to finish up or work on it for another two minutes another time. When this happens, just remember: Any progress is good progress!
- Make your bed
- Start a load of laundry
- Put dishes in the dishwasher
- Change the kitchen trash
- Change the bathroom trash
- Wipe down your bathroom sink and toilet
- Wipe your kitchen counters
- Wipe your kitchen table
- Declutter a coffee table
- Spot mop your floors
- Dust a few surfaces
- Wipe down some light switches
- Put away some shoes
- Declutter some hooks
- Clean out the fridge a little bit
- Recycle some magazines and catalogs
- Clean some mirrors
- Wipe down and polish a glass door
- Tidy up papers and pens on a desk
- Clean out your purse, handbag, or wallet
We’re not going for perfect here, we’re going for progress. Sometimes you really just need to embrace the idea that clean enough really is enough and realize that your home is meant to be enjoyed, not slaved over, so don’t feel guilty for what you don’t get done. Admire your hard work and the progress you’ve made and then move along happily with your day, knowing that you can tackle another two minutes and make some great strides another time soon!
