You might not think of IKEA if you’re a lover of classic blue and white decor like I am, but I discovered some great things on my last trip there! Here are my favourite blue and white IKEA finds!
I have a few very specific things that I love when it comes to home decor: Anything grey, anything woven in a natural material (like baskets and rattan-anything), and classic blue and white. I’ve really let grey takeover our home over the last few years because it’s practical for family life and just easy to work with. I’ve had my little corner of blue and white in the dining room on my plate wall, but I’ve really been wanting to try adding more blue and white into our home this year. It just makes me happy. You know what else makes me happy? IKEA, of course! We were in Toronto just after New Year’s this year for a mini family vacation and I took the opportunity to stop in to IKEA and see what was new there since my last visit a year before. I definitely had blue and white on my mind while I was there, so today I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite blue and white IKEA finds!
Blue and White IKEA Finds
Entusiasm Bowls
The little blue and white chinoiserie bowls are even more beautiful in person. I already have quite a collection of similar bowls, but it was worth adding these ones as well. They come in a set of 4 and are the perfect size for ice cream, or for just displaying on a shelf in a stack. 🙂
Cushion Covers
I may have gone a little overboard on the blue and white cushions/cushion covers recently, so these stayed in the store, but they’re worth talking about. I love the floral Blagran cushion cover, as well as the striped Innehallsrik cover. Both would be perfect for adding a little bit of classic blue and white to your world.
Godtagbar Vases
There are actually four different styles of these vases and I chose my favourite two to bring home with me. 🙂 I love the handmade look that these have to them and I think they’re basically just classics. You can’t go wrong.
Tea Towels
These IKEA 365+ tea towels are now officially my favourite tea towels ever. I’ve tried all kinds, from cheap grocery store towels to the most expensive I could find and these are the best that are available in the market right now in my opinion. They’re actually listed as black, but I’ve had them for over a year now and I think that they read like a really dark navy blue, so I’m including them here. They’re tough, absorbent (better after a few washes), and they don’t show a single stain, no matter what you wipe up with them. Tea towel perfection.
Fjalla Desk Organizer
This little organizer is so simple, but so cheerful. I actually still (8.5 years after moving in) don’t have a proper office with a desk and I usually just work on the couch or at the dining room table, but one day we’re going to get around the re-doing the “orange room” into an office and something like this desk organizer would look so great on a crisp white desk.
Storrstabbe Box
Another simple, but cheerful storage solution. I may have to put these to use in our new living room cupboards once they’re done.
Ringblomma Roman Blind
Just pretty and fresh-looking. 🙂
Medlem Mug
I did not pick these up on our IKEA visit, but I’m kind of wishing I did. Love those little polka dots.
A Few Favourite White IKEA Finds
One thing that I’ve learned in trying to add more blue and white into my home is that a little goes a long way when it comes to the “blue” part of the equation and I really like to balance out a little bit of blue with a whole lot of the white components in a room. Although IKEA is a master at all things fresh and clean and white, I thought I’d share a few things that caught my eye on my visit that would work really well in a blue and white decor type of situation.
Those Little White Candles
You know the ones I’m talking about. The vanilla ones that they have on display by the skid-full that cost about $2. You just can’t beat them. It’s absolutely essential to pick up at least a few on every IKEA trip as far as I’m concerned.
Vanderot White Cushion
We have a dark grey sectional in our living room and it’s super practical. I also get a ton of compliments on it all the time. It’s just a good, classic couch. The problem is that it doesn’t 100% fit in with the light and bright feeling that I’d like to bring to our home. Lots of white cushions and just a few blue ones here and there help a lot. This is a good one!
Rickarum White Lamp
This is just a great, classic white lamp. The little beaded detail on it makes the design really work for me.
White Liatorp Console
So, I’m fairly convinced that this is the world’s most perfect console table. I’ve been looking for a new one for our mudroom for almost two years now and after looking at a lot at much higher price points, as well as considering different designs that I could have Chris build for me, I came across this one. I’ve realized that even though it’s inexpensive, I actually just like it much more than any other I’ve been able to find. Look for this one to show up in our mud room soon! 🙂
What do you think? Do any of these finds make you want to head straight to your local IKEA?
