I’ve been meaning to share this healthy 1 ingredient ice cream recipe with you every summer for about three years now and every year I’ve failed miserably. Not this year though! Here I am, ready to change your world! 🙂
This ice cream recipe has been gaining in popularity over the last few years, so you may already be in on it, but if you haven’t heard of it before, you’re in for a treat! Literally! Haha.
Kennedy and I tried this out a few summers ago and we’ve been hooked ever since. Chris used to look at us like we were crazy, but even he’s eating it with us now. We have a whole-family healthy ice cream night at least once a week now!
So here’s how you make it!
How to Make Healthy 1 Ingredient Ice Cream
First, take some bananas and freeze them. I wrote a post about how I like to freeze bananas for all of my different recipes a few months ago. We usually do about 1.5 bananas per person.
Take your bananas out of the freezer about 20 minutes before you’re ready to make your ice cream so they can thaw out just a little.
Once your bananas are frozen and slightly thawed, all you need to do is blend them up and they instantly turn into a kind of “soft-serve” almost like magic! It’s amazing how much the bananas taste like real ice cream once you change the texture!
To blend your bananas up, you can use a high-powered blender, a food processor, or a banana soft serve maker like we have.
We used a regular blender for this the first few times and we actually killed it, so I wouldn’t recommend using just a regular blender for that reason. Once we tried this, we realized that we could never again be without our banana ice cream, so we ran out and picked up the banana soft serve maker and that’s still what we use! It’s extra fun for the kids because it makes the ice cream look pretty like real soft serve and there are no sharp parts to worry about.
Healthy 1 Ingredient Ice Cream Recipe Variations
We’ll often add a little splash of vanilla into the shoot with our bananas, or a sprinkling of cocoa powder, or even a scoop of peanut butter but it really is delicious with just the bananas too! Also try freezing other types of fruit like strawberries or mangoes to mix in with the bananas for something a little different!
