A coffee table is one of those major furniture purchases that you hope will last you for a good long time, but how do you know if you’re making the right choice? Here are some of my favorite classic coffee tables that will fit in beautifully in your timeless, lasting, non-trendy living room.
Trends can be so overwhelming sometimes when it comes to furniture and home decor. We see something so often and we start to really like it after awhile. Some trends become so ingrained in what you see everyday for a few years that you can start to think that they’re classic and timeless, when in fact, they’re the exact thing that will make you cringe in another four years once something new comes along. Finding something truly timeless can be pretty challenging when your brain is all fogged up with trends, but creating a foundation of timeless staple pieces in my home is always my ultimate goal. Timeless, quality pieces contribute to your long-term ease of living, your signature style, and ultimately your wallet as well. They bring peace to your home and allow you to rest easy instead of constantly worrying about chasing trends or having a home that looks outdated and neglected. When it comes to a main purchase like a coffee table, you definitely don’t want to be feeling like you need to replace it over and over again to keep up with the latest styles in home decor. You just want something that will kind of blend in as styles change and just work every day, on every occasion, year after year. With that in mind, here are some favorite classic coffee tables for you to consider.
Classic Coffee Table Options That Will Last
Wood and Rattan Coffee Tables
I love a wood coffee table in a carpeted or tiled room, or a room with a wood floor where all of the other finishes are furniture in the room are painted, metal, stone, upholstery or other non-wood finishes. Here are some good ones I found!
Abigaelle Coffee Table | Simple and solid with some beautiful metal detailing to make it special.
Brockton Coffee Table | In my opinion, mission style furniture is one of the most truly timeless furniture styles. There has never been a time when this style of furniture has ever seemed outdated or out of style. This table has tons of great reviews.
Organza Pedestal Coffee Table | Such an elegant table, but also so practical. Round tables are great for allowing traffic to flow smoothly and safely around them. The pedestal design makes it the perfect coffee table for sitting around for puzzles and board games too.
Balboa Rattan Coffee Table | Rattan is such a timeless material because it adds so much warmth and texture to a space. It’s also a great “other” finish when you already have a lot of wood and metal in a space, but a painted finish doesn’t seem quite right. This square table is a great one for adding warmth to a larger living room.
Geno Coffee Table | I love this seagrass ottoman/table as a really budget-friendly, baby-safe way of bringing in the same texture as the rattan table above. Such a great price, and you could easily put two side-by-side if you have a larger space to fill in front of your sofa.
Somerville Coffee Table | A great blank canvas for any type of coffee table decor you can dream up, whether it’s modern or traditional or a little bit of both. You could also easily switch out the knobs to upgrade the look of this table a little bit.
Metal, Glass, and Stone Coffee Tables
I love these types of finishes in a room with wood floors where you already have one other major finish or furniture piece that’s wood. Of course these rules can always be broken, this is just a little something to think about if you aren’t sure what type of table you might like in your room yet.
Tanner Coffee Table | A simple rectangular glass coffee table to work with all types of styles. It’s really the “you can’t go wrong” option here. I love that the metal has kind of a hand-forged look to it to make it special.
Rae Rectangular Coffee Table | This is the coffee table version of my side table. In my opinion, anything inspired by French cafe style will always be timeless. The marble and blackened metal combination here is beautiful.
Clairemont Oval Coffee Table | This might be my very favorite. Just so elegant and special in its own way and at a very reasonable price too. This one is a “wow” coffee table for me. 🙂
Saskya Round Coffee Table | This is our coffee table! It’s now about half the price that I payed for it too. 🙂 Such a great family-friendly option that has served us well for a few years now. No sharp edges to bump in to, great for board games and puzzles and super sturdy for dragging it back and forth whenever you need a little extra room. Plus, I think it’s pretty cute.
