We’re out of lockdown! Well, partially. Non-essential stores are now open at a max capacity of 15% and restaurants are open for patio dining only. You can also gather in groups outside of up to 10 people. We’re mostly just excited to be able to go into Home Depot again and pick up what we need quickly and easily, but I might even be tempted to go out to dinner on a patio sometime soon, just for fun. We’ll see. I’m watching to see how crazy busy things get before I run out and join any crowds, but it’s just nice to know that the option is there. Definitely looking forward to a few outdoor gatherings this summer, at least!
We revived our old picnic table on a whim and I’m probably a little more excited about it than most people would be. We’ve had this old picnic table sitting in front of our garage for years. It was pretty rickety, but Chris mostly just used it to work on when he wanted to cut a piece of wood outside the garage. I randomly decided that a picnic table would work well for an upcoming campaign I’m going to be working on so I started looking into buying a new one that I could paint to match our new white all-weather Adirondack chairs. Of course, lumber is super expensive right now, so new picnic tables are hard to find and also really, crazy expensive if you do find them available. So I asked Chris if he’d be up for fixing up our existing table and he basically just completely rebuilt it out of lumber he already had in the garage, and by planing some of the existing boards that could be save. I had intended to just use the table for a few photos, but then I realized just how much use we’d be able to get out of it on a regular basis when we eat outside as a family. It was a real “Why didn’t we do this sooner?” moment for me. We have an outdoor dining set, but we always end up just pulling up our camping chairs on the lawn instead and it’s not ideal. We’re definitely picnic table people, so this is going to be great and feel just like camping. And it looks pretty cute with its fresh coat of white paint too.
June is such a rewarding month for gardeners, isn’t it? I love how you get to finally cut back all of the spent spring flowers and see so many things starting to come into full bloom. This has been an especially interesting June so far because I’ve planted so many new things this year in my little perennial cutting garden and in other places around the property and I’m just really enjoying learning about all of these plants that I’ve never been been introduced to before and how they come to life. It’s kind of like Christmas morning every day.
Did you hear that Kochi is now selling clothing? Kochi is like the best kept secret in table linens in my opinion and now they’ve just started selling clothing! Just like with their table linens, they have so many beautiful colors and patterns and the prices are shockingly good. You’ll find lots of great, flowy summer tops, dresses, and a few pieces that I think are perfect for swimsuit cover-ups for summer as well. The whole collection reminds me a lot of things that you can find in higher end stores at summertime and I just love everything. Lots of blue and white options too and they’re based in Toronto, so they’re local-ish. 🙂
I’m working on putting together a review of those new porch chairs! Here I am testing them out right after we put them together. There was a mishap with a hole bring pre-drilled in the wrong spot, but nothing we couldn’t fix and we got them put together, but nothing we couldn’t handle, clearly. I have many thoughts on what to look for and what not to look for as far as the appearance of Adirondack chairs goes, but as far as comfort goes I can tell you right away that these chairs are 10/10. They come in and out of stock pretty frequently because they’re so popular, so keep an eye on them if you’re thinking about ordering some.
NEWS AND FINDS
-I was supposed to work on a sponsored campaign with The Inside earlier this spring to share their beautiful beach/lawn chairs, but we had to put it off because of the borders being closed right now. I still wanted to let you know about them though because they’re just the coolest. So affordable and you get to choose from so many different great fabric choices. Hoping we can make a partnership work one day soon because I’m such a fan of everything they have on their site.

-Superga sneakers: I had a million questions about these classic white sneakers I was wearing in this photo after I posted it to Instagram last week, so I’ll re-share here. Are they comfortable? Yes, definitely my most-worn shoes. How do you keep them so white? Why, I wrote a post about it last fall! Do you wear socks with them? I wear those little no-show socks. Which Supergas are they? They’re the 2750 Cotu Classic. These were bought from LL Bean a few years ago and they’re an old model with rose gold eyelets, but you can find the non-rose gold version all kinds of places. And to top it all off? They’re super affordable. The perfect white sneaker. 🙂
-If you’re one for the perfect white sneaker, you’re probably also in search of the perfect white baseball cap to keep the sun off your face, as I have been for the past few years. I have a tiny head so the ones I’ve bought in the past have always fit really weird and just look silly, but this nike one I found earlier this spring is just perfect and I’ve been wearing it non-stop. Very excited about this recent sun-protection development. 🙂 White is currently sold out, obviously, because as I said, it’s perfect. There is a “light bone” color still available though.
-I’m starting to make a mental list of things I’m going to buy and stores I’m going to visit when the border opens back up again and it’s probably not healthy because that’s still pretty far away I’m sure, but this gold-framed Studio McGee print from Target made the list immediately when I saw it. I’m torturing myself with thoughts of “Target, why did you have to leave Canada?!” again, of course. It’s been about 6 years since they left, I think? I’ll get over it one day.
