This craftman-style lake house was one of my favorite homes that we’ve ever photographed. Come tour this beautifully restored historic home full of original finishes and thoughtful new details.

We’re so lucky that we get to visit so many beautiful, picturesque homes with our interior design photography business, but none of them has ever left quite the impression on me that this lake house did. Originally built in the Craftsman style, this beautiful home was thoughtfully expanded and restored, with beautiful woodwork throughout and period-appropriate finishes and furnishings used along with all the modern conveniences you could ever want or need. I always get questions and comments whenever I share one of the photos from this lakeside home over on our photography Instagram page, so I thought it would be fun to put together a full tour for you today to give you a peek at some of the beautiful work done in this home. We’ll actually be going back to capture the exterior of this home and the property overlooking the shoreline with expansive views of the water later this year, after the landscaping work is complete, so I’ll come back and update this post after that.

A New Lake Home Kitchen Rooted in the Past

Although this kitchen looks as though it’s original to the house, it’s actually entirely new. Where the kitchen stands now was once a porch, and everything you see in this space, including the built-in fridge made to look like a time-worn antique, is brand new.

The room was wrapped in windows to take advantage of breathtaking water front views.
The main entrance to the house brings you right into the kitchen, where a cozy bar area is ready to welcome guests with a cold drink on a hot day.

A Traditional Pantry With Modern Functionality

This very traditional butler’s pantry, with its beautiful cabinetry and built-in plate rack, actually hides some very modern amenities. Behind the classic cabinet doors, you’ll find an extra refrigerator and an espresso machine station, complete with a faucet for refills.

There’s also something you might not expect to see at all in a pantry – a stunning wood-paneled elevator to take you up to the second floor.

The Dining Room and Living Room: Lovingly Preserved

The paneled dining room is one space that was original to the house, but it wasn’t always exactly as it is now. A door was removed from one of the paneled walls during the renovation, and new panelling had to be installed and stained to match the original old wood. It’s nearly impossible to tell the old from the new.

The living room is a cozy mix of antique pieces and new furnishings gathered around a large wood fireplace mantel.

Small Spaces With Special Details

This stair railing was truly a work of art. The rich, dark wood tone isn’t something you see a lot these days in home renovations, but it’s perfect for an old home like this one.

This tiny powder room was filled with every thoughtful detail imaginable. I loved the antique piece they chose for the vanity, and all the other details, like the light fixtures and mosaic tile floor, make it truly special in every way. The Art Nouveau wallpaper was just the right choice for the age and style of the house.

The calming office is done in shades of green with built-in shelves to display the homeowner’s collections and family photos.

The sun porch on the top floor is the perfect place to take in the waterfront views. You truly feel like you’re up in the treetops when you’re in this inspiring space.

A Beachy Lakefront Primary Suite

Of course, the primary suite takes advantage of those amazing sightlines over the water as well, framing it out with the most amazing custom draperies. This light and airy retreat is a beautiful, calming space in every way with elevated finishes and plenty of natural light.
