Black kitchen cabinets have been so popular for the last few years and I have to admit that I’m a little excited every time we get to photograph a black kitchen because I know the photos will just turn out beautifully. Here are some of my recent favorites for inspiration!
Black kitchen cabinets have been a big trend over the last few years and, although I’m personally a lover of timeless and traditional interiors, I have to admit that I’ve fallen hard for black kitchens. Black cabinetry definitely lends itself to a striking and modern look, but I do think it can be a timeless choice as well. You can tell how much I like black finishes just based on how many things in my home I’ve painted black over the last few years, although I have yet to take the plunge and actually paint my kitchen. 🙂 Although dark kitchen cabinets aren’t usually my thing, I’ve seen black cabinets done well in so many different ways and the moody, high-contrast look always shows so well in photos. I thought it would be fun today to share some favorites for anyone considering adding black cabinetry to the plan for their upcoming kitchen renovation. Whether the dream kitchen you’re planning for is a new kitchen or a kitchen remodel, there should be a tidbit of inspiration in here for you.

Black Cabinetry Ideas for All Types of Homes
Modern Flat Panel Black Cabinetry with Blonde Wood | This super modern kitchen combines both matte black cabinets on the lowers and island and wood shelving and cabinetry in a blonde stain on the wall for a striking look that feels airy, warm, and grounded all at the same time. Cabinetry by Windmill Cabinets.
Wood Kitchen With Black Glass Front Cabinets | This kitchen was actually used as the setting for a product photography shoot we did with a local popcorn farming company Homestead Popcorn, as you can see by the popcorn styled on the island. I thought the black pendants and the black framing on the glass cabinetry against the wood cabinets were a brilliant design move though and really make this a stand-out small kitchen.
Timeless and Traditional Black Kitchen | I have to admit that this kitchen is probably on my list of top ten favorites that we’ve ever shot. I just love how the high contrast of the white cabinets, black kitchen island, and all the other black elements in this room make the space so eye-catching, and yet it encompasses so many timeless, traditional themes that will really stand the test of time for the family that owns this home. I love that these are kitchen cabinet ideas that a lot of people might not think of when searching for farmhouse kitchen ideas, but as you can see, this look really works. You may also want to see another angle of this kitchen and its farmhouse sink shown in this post. Cabinetry by Oak Barrel Cabinetry.
Modern Industrial Black Kitchen With Cooking Alcove | I could write a whole post on this amazing contemporary kitchen with its black modern industrial island, bifold doors that fold back to reveal shelving behind, and spacious cooking alcove. The shaker style door with oversized gold hardware was definitely the right choice and I love that inviting little bit of butcher block countertop they added in that just makes you want to get to work whipping up something delicious. Sleek and Modern Black Cabinets | A super modern interpretation with streamlined, hardware-free flat black cabinet doors. The line of continuous grain wood upper cabinets adds warmth and keep the space from feeling too cold and stark. I always say the most well-designed spaces are always the easiest to style and decorate and that definitely stands true in this one. Moody and Dramatic Kitchen Done in Black | This galley kitchen features all black cabinets from floor to ceiling with a waterfall island clad in light coloured quartz and a quartz backsplash as well set again white walls. The resulting look is moody and elegant and you can’t help but imagine all kinds of gourmet meals being prepared in this space. The stainless steel appliances complete the culinary look. High-Contrast Kitchen With Black Island | This bright all white kitchen is given a dose of contrast with a black island and black range hood, which tie in so nicely to all the black accents in the hardware, faucet, and pendant lights. Even the tile backsplash is high contrast with its dark grout. Design by CM Planning and Design.

Modern Skinny Shaker Built-In Dining Room Buffet | This beautiful built-in buffet is located in a dining room just off the kitchen in this home. The minimal gold hardware and dramatic stone top really create a lasting impression. Design: Jodie Owen Design. Cabinetry by Oak Barrel Cabinetry.
