The fisherman aesthetic has been everywhere this year, from fashion to home decor, and there’s so much to love about this timeless look that has suddenly become a trend.

Have you heard of the fisherman aesthetic? It’s basically the cozier, slightly more rustic version of the “Coastal Grandmother” trend from a couple of years ago, and it’s been popping up everywhere this year. This layered, charming style is definitely something you could imagine seeing in a Nancy Meyers movie set in a coastal New England town, and it’s just another sign that people are still craving welcoming, nostalgic spaces in their homes and cozy-but-easy-breezy styles in their closets. Like most people, I’ve found myself loving the quirky decor pieces, layered plaids, and woven textures that are a part of this look and I couldn’t resist pulling together a few finds to create a little mood board/wish list of fisherman-inspired pieces.

Fisherman Aesthetic Finds for the Home

Frame-it-Yourself Fishing Print | I love affordable art that you can use with the frames you already have, or a beautiful vintage frame that you find at the thrift store. This serene print features a person sitting solo in a canoe on a peaceful, misty lake.
Gathering Basket | This beautiful basket is actually meant for the garden, but I think it would work beautifully on a table to display some dried blooms or a stack of postcards. Or just on its own as the perfect woven fisherman aesthetic accent.
Aquatic-Themed Plates | While you can certainly set the table with these beautiful Spode plates, if you’re looking to achieve a fisherman aesthetic in your home, they will be even better hung on the wall as art. This salmon plate is unique and hits the nail on the head, while this wood duck plate is the perfect pairing.
Tweed Plaid Pillows | Layered plaids, wools, knits, and tweeds are essential to this look, and these cozy pillows in nature-inspired hues will definitely bring a cozy, textural look to any armchair or sofa. I love the mixed plaid paired with the plaid chair below for a fun, fishing lodge effect without looking like they belong in a basement man cave. Brown Plaid Pillow Here | Blue Plaid Pillow Here
Plaid Armchair | This plaid armchair brings softness and personality to any space. I love this slightly masculine take on a classic blue and white color palette, and the dark turned wood legs are a lovely traditional touch. Also love this roll-arm pinstripe chair and this windowpane plaid chair.
Turned Wood Side Table | Dark wood tones are a necessity for bringing the fisherman aesthetic look home, and this side table is the perfect partner for the plaid armchair in this design plan. Grab a coaster, your book, and a big mug of tea, and you’ll be all set to enjoy a cozy, rainy afternoon.
Cableknit Throw Blanket (on sale!)| I love that this cozy throw blanket reminds me of a classic fisherman’s sweater, and the soft fleece backing ensures extra coziness.
Model Ship Decor | Of course you’ll need a classic model ship to finish off your space. It goes without saying. If you can’t find one at your local antique market, this newly made model ship will work beautifully on a console table, on top of a dresser, or on a buffet between two lamps.
Continue the fisherman vibe with some collected wildflowers in a heavy apothecary-style glass vase and maybe the perfect fisherman’s sweater tossed over a chair, ready to throw on for chilly walks by the shore. Or add some classic stripes with a cozy striped sweater or an airy striped shirt for warmer days.
I think my favorite thing about this trend is that it’s full of pieces that aren’t trendy at all. I think this aesthetic reflects a larger move towards choosing items for our homes and wardrobes that will stand the test of time and that we can enjoy for years and years to come. None of the items listed above will ever truly become outdated or out of style.
