Cold and flu season can be a very challenging time for many people. Luckily there are many amazing natural, homemade cold and flu remedies right here.
Well hello there, cold and flu season! So great to see you again! I can say this because I know I’m ready for any aches, pains, or sore throat that might come my way over the next few months. There are a lot of different natural homemade cold and flu remedies to make yourself feel better when you’re under the weather, but these are some of my very favorites.
Salt Water
Whenever I feel a sore throat coming on, I grab a glass of warm water, stir about a teaspoon of salt into it and gargle about as much of it as I can handle over and over again until the glass is gone. The salt water kills the bacteria in your throat and for some reason it really does help the pain. If you catch it early enough, you may not end up getting sick at all, but if you’re really in a bad spot salt water will help you feel so much better.
Chicken Soup
There’s real science behind why chicken soup makes you feel better. The combination of the chicken and the vegetables inhibit the movement of certain immune cells and make your symptoms less severe. Plus it’s yummy!
Warm Water and Steam
Don’t get lazy and skip a hot shower if you’re feeling under the weather! Hot water soothes aching muscles and increases circulation, allowing your body to heal itself faster. The steam opens up your airways and helps you breathe a little better. In a pinch, just sticking your head over a bowl of hot water with a towel over your head will help too.
Homemade Cough Syrup
Oh boy does this stuff work! Check out my own recipe for homemade cough syrup if you really want to kick your cold to the curb. The great thing about it is that you can adjust the recipe a bit to suit your own tastes and needs and it will still work great!
Garlic!
Garlic is powerful stuff with antioxidant, antiviral, and antibiotic properties. Add some extra garlic to your meals, or if you’re really brave, try eating it raw to really get the full effects!
Try these natural home remedies first before you reach for the over-the-counter meds and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much they really help!
If you’re reading this cause you’re feeling icky right now then get well soon!
