Washable rugs that can actually be tossed right in the washing machine have taken the home decor world by storm over the last few years. Here are some of the very best available right now.
When I first heard about washable rugs a few years ago, I have to admit that they sounded too good to be true to me. It just makes so much sense for families with pets and kids to be able to wash the rugs they have throughout their homes. As we all know, rugs get dirty, and spills happen. Floor coverings can be a big investment and it seems crazy that one little accident or incident where a pet runs through the house with muddy paws could send all your hard-earned money down the drain.
I now own several machine-washable mats and rugs, and I don’t ever see myself going back to regular area rugs. Judging by how often I see these rugs in homes we visit, I can tell many other families feel the same way, and it’s exciting to see so many new cleanable rug options popping up on the market to meet the demand. If you’re in the market for a new washable rug for your home, here are some of my current favorites.

Favorite Rugs That Can be Cleaned in the Washing Machine
Kamran Ivory Opal
Kamran Ivory Opal Rug by Ruggable | This is my current top pick because it’s the rug I have in my living room and I just love it. Many of my readers have ordered one after seeing it in our home, and it’s just one of those designs that seems to work with any color scheme and almost any type of decor, from refined transitional to rustic country to modern farmhouse and everything in between with its colors of taupe, sea grass, dark-grey charcoal, and pale blue.
Faux Cowhide Rug
Ivory and Cream Faux Cowhide Rug by Ruggable | This is the rug I’m dreaming of currently for my future home office renovation. It just brings so much personality and energy to a space and I think it’s stunning in the colors of sheepskin and beige cafe au lait. The range of different color options is beautiful as well, so you really can make this textured style of rug fit in beautifully in so many different decorating styles. It’s had to believe something this beautiful is actually fully machine washable!
Washable Doormat
LL Bean Washable Waterhog Doormat | I’m a huge fan of LL Bean’s indestructible Waterhog mats that last basically forever and I have them all over my home. This company is famous for their hand knitted braided rug designs, but it’s great to see them persuing innovative products as well as the classics that they’ve always been known for. They’ve now come out with machine washable rug runners and doormats in various sizes and I’m excited to try them out. These are great as a door mat but also work wonderfully as kitchen rugs.
An Inexpensive Option
Moynesa Washable Area Rug on Amazon | If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly rug choice, this one conveniently found on Amazon could be for you. The exquisite pattern and overdyed look in burgundy, bamboo, and linen tones make this rug a great option that’s available at a lower price point for those who want to try a washable rug without a big investment. This rectangle rug would brighten an eclectic space beautifully.
Odette Ivory Pearl
Odette Ivory Pearl Rug by Ruggable | I removed the old tufted wool rug in the dining room for the summer, but when it’s time to cozy things up again with something soft underfoot, this is the rug I’ve had my eye on to tie in perfectly with the living room rug without being exactly the same. The muted colors and traditional pattern are perfect for an older house like ours and it’s a classy, timeless option that we’ll love for years to come. This option would also look beautiful paired with a neutral jute rug if you like the idea of bringing the look of natural fibers into your space.
More Great Washable Rugs
The O.G. “Washable” Rugs
Dash and Albert Cotton Rugs Available on Wayfair | Before the new, modern, easy-to-clean rugs flooded the market, I used to buy classic woven cotton rugs in a stripe pattern for my floors because I could throw them in the washer and dryer and have them come out looking fresh. It’s a tactic that still works, and loomed flat-weave rugs are the perfect casual rug for a country home or a modern farmhouse. I’ve even used them on our covered porch as an outdoor rug. They really are a great indoor-outdoor solution.
Ultra Thin Area Rugs
Valenrug on Amazon | Thin, low-profile accent rugs are a great choice for under an office chair or in an entryway where the door needs to be able to swing freely over your rug, but you really need some stain resistance. Ultra-thin rugs bring a burst of color and interest to your space without getting in the way. With these rugs, you’ll most likely even have room to add a rug pad if you don’t want your rug to skid across the floor.
Ruggable Morris Collection
Morris & Co Strawberry Thief Rug Stone Gold Rug by Ruggable | The enduring appeal of the art of William Morris can’t be denied, and the intricate lattice floral pattern on this art nouveau rug will bring instant warmth and elegance to your space. It really makes a statement in indigo, coral, and light grey. I’d love to see a runner from this rug collection used in a hallway to add instant personality.
An Environmentally-Friendly Pick for Washable Rugs
Adiva Eco-Friendly Rugs on Amazon | Some manufacturers have taken this advancement in home decor one step further by making their rugs from recycled materials, making their floor coverings a convenient option that you can really feel good about. It’s easy to make a choice that’s kind to the earth when the designs are this beautiful, with their traditional Persian motif. These Adiva rugs are all OEKO-TEX certified, meaning they are made in ecologically friendly facilities and have gone through rigorous testing for all types of dangerous materials.
Designer Colorways in Washable Rug Form
Medallion Design Performance Rugs on Wayfair | Tie your rug seamlessly into your room’s color scheme with these quality rugs in beautiful designer colors like blue-grey, rust, and terracotta, available at an outstanding value on Wayfair.
