We were recently invited to spend a weekend at a nearby local vacation property on the shores of Lake Erie. Our stay at Water’s Edge by Liberty was nothing short of wonderful, with beautiful fall lake views and plenty of fun things to do together as a family.

We had the most lovely little weekend getaway a couple of weekends ago and I’m so excited to tell you all about it. Water’s Edge by Liberty is a vacation property on the shores of Lake Erie with lots of space for larger groups, and so many fun things to do while you’re there. Being right on the beach, it’s usually most popular during the summer months, but we had the coziest time visiting in the fall. Let me tell you all about the property and what we did while we were there for a weekend in late October.

About the Property

Water’s Edge is located right on the shores of Lake Erie near Merlin, ON, and it’s a short drive to beautiful local beach towns like Erieau, provincial parks like Rondeau and Wheatley, and Point Pelee National Park as well. It’s a great location if you’re visiting the area to explore the Great Lakes, beaches, parks, farm stands, and history of southwestern Ontario.

The property consists of two units, each sleeping six-to-eight and eight-to-ten, with three bedrooms, a full eat-in kitchen, and living room in each unit. The interiors were professionally-designed by Liberty Interior Design and provide lots of Instagram-worthy backdrops for capturing all your favorite moments. 🙂

We stayed in the “Liberty Lodge” unit, which was perfect for a cozy fall stay with amazing sunrise views over the lake and a large stone fireplace in the living room for cozying up in the evenings.

Amenities and Activities at Water’s Edge
There’s so much to do at Water’s Edge, even in the fall, that there really isn’t any reason to leave the property if you’d rather just get comfortable and settle in for the duration of your stay.
Directly behind the house, you’ll find a sprawling lawn overlooking the lake, dotted with lounge areas and picnic tables, so there are plenty of places to enjoy the view, even if the property is at full capacity. You’ll also find a BBQ area, fire pits with plenty of firewood, and an 8-person hot tub to enjoy during your stay.

If you head down the beach trail, you’ll find a private beach access point leading you to a beautiful, quiet beach with the water on one side and towering cliffs on the other. You’ll also find beach chairs, a hammock, kayaks and paddle boards, and even a beach volleyball court with poles made out of driftwood, which I thought was very clever. 🙂

At Water’s Edge, you also have the option of accessing their “Zen Den,” which is a beautifully-designed combination simulated golf and yoga studio. Inside, you’ll find couches for lounging, a fireplace, a kitchenette, and a separate washroom, making it a fun place to host gatherings of small groups for a fun afternoon during your stay.

What We Did During Our Stay
Although we had plans to venture out a bit and explore some of favorite spots along the lake, we mostly ended up staying on the property the whole time because we just had so much to do while we were there.
Meal Times

I wanted to make the most of a calm family meal time where we were all together and not rushing out the door to sports or other activities, which doesn’t happen very often. The beautiful kitchen was the perfect place for us to slow down and enjoy some time together, so although there are some great restaurants, breweries, and wineries nearby, we stayed in and made simple meals to enjoy together during our stay, and it was just what we needed. The kitchen had everything for basic cooking needs, so we were just able to relax and enjoy.
Golf, The Beach, and Hiking
Since Jack has been learning golf this year, the golf simulator was a big attraction for him, and we spent quite a bit of time in the Zen Den, taking turns hitting balls and just enjoying the cozy, elevated atmosphere in this lovely little space.

On Saturday morning, we meant to just go down to the beach to check it out, but the sun was so nice and the views were so beautiful that we ended up lingering for quite awhile, walking along the shore and collecting beach glass. The path to the beach is quite steep in some areas, but there are sturdy staircases with handrails, so it should be passable for most people, and the views are worth the workout!

We did end up going for a little drive to check out the nearby Merlin conservation area, which was a short path through a tree-filled lot with the most beautiful fall colors at this time of year. If you’re looking for a quick 15-minute walk away from the property, this is a great place to check out. We headed back for a little paddle in the kayaks, and Jack even got brave and ran into the water for a quick swim even though the air was quite chilly. I wouldn’t recommend it for the faint of heart, but it’s definitely possible on a sunny, calm day if you’re in the mood for something really refreshing.
Cozy Evenings In
On Saturday night, we went for a quick dip in the hot tub, then settled in for more golf, and of course, to watch the Blue Jays in game 2 of the World Series in front of the cozy fire.
We had such a relaxing time, and truly felt so well-taken care of while we were at Water’s Edge. They really did think of every little detail for our stay. We had a hard time pulling Jack away from all the fun, and he said he wished we could stay a whole week, which I think is really the best endorsement you could get. 🙂
Thanks so much to Water’s Edge by Liberty for hosting us for a lovely little fall getaway that we won’t soon forget!
