Christmas door decorations bring a welcoming, festive air to your home during the holidays. Greet guests, family members, and passersby with a cheerful display that will brighten even the darkest December day.

For many people, their Christmas door decorations are their favorite part of their Christmas decor during the holiday season. It’s so wonderful to be able to spread a little bit of holiday cheer just by hanging a wreath or setting out a beautiful planter of greenery for people driving or walking by to see and enjoy. It may be that the holiday decorations you put out in your home are only seen by a handful of people, but your porch and entryway decor is something that you share with the whole world. Before I get started on my own front door decorations this year, I thought it would be fun to look back on a few favorite ideas from past years for a little bit of DIY Christmas inspiration.
DIY Wood Snowflake Wreath

If you have some basic woodworking skills, or even if you’re just really good with a glue gun, you can make these striking wooden snowflakes using thin pieces of wood and some paint in a festive color of your choice. Attach a length of ribbon to turn them into unique snowflake wreaths, or use Command strips to attach them to the side of your house like we did here, a barn, or your garage door.

Birch In a Box Porch Planter

This clever front door decoration makes use of a basic wooden crate and thin birch logs from the garden center. Our garden center was selling pre-made versions of these planters, but you can also make your own. Reuse the planter and attached birch logs every year and simply refresh the greenery and other add-ins for a fresh new look for your porch or entryway. I like to use a mix of greenery like spruce, fir, pine, and juniper for my holiday decor, which I think adds a lot of interest and elegance.

DIY Fresh Cedar Mini Christmas Wreath

This dainty wreath made with fresh cedar clippings makes a perfect addition to small garden gates, cabinet doors, or windows flanking your front door. The simple construction method for these wreaths requires no wreath form – only a bit of florist’s wire and some pretty ribbon for hanging.

Foraged Christmas Door Swag

If you’re lucky enough to have some green space nearby or just a few different evergreens growing in your yard, get out the pruning shears and gather up a few branches of whatever catches your eye. Combine them into a dazzling, natural door swag with ornaments, berries, bells, and bows for merry compliments all season long. You can find the bells for this swag here: Rustic Christmas Bells

Gathered Woodland Winter Porch Decor

Take your evergreen foraging one step further and outfit your whole porch in fresh greenery as well. Fill your planters and adorn your steps with greens and candles for a charming, old-fashioned Christmas look.

Blue and White Christmas Porch Decor

This Christmas porch I did a few years ago uses a classic blue and white color scheme for a fresh take on traditional Christmas decorating. Layers of greenery, branches, dried blooms, and other foraged finds are accented by blue satin ribbon and classic blue and white ceramic planters.

Pair a Simple Wreath with a Beautiful Ribbon

It doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. Pair a simple wreath – either real or faux – with a beautiful, wide ribbon for an eye-catching door display for your Christmas home. This fresh boxwood wreath makes a beautiful statement with its charming black watch plaid ribbon hanger.
