Try this super clever and affordable camping organizer idea on your next family camping trip to keep everything clean and organized!
One of the biggest challenges with camping is keeping everything clean, tidy, and where you can find it when you’re in an unfamiliar location away from home. I had this idea pop into my head about a month ago and I was so excited to try it out on our summer camping trip this year. We always seem to end up with all of the little things we need either scattered all over the table or in the bottom of a bin somewhere where they’re really hard to find. This hanging camping organizer seemed like just the thing to solve all of those problems!
The Hanging Camping Organizer in Action
There are a lot of trees where we go camping so we always have a lot of options for where to hang anything hang-able. This organizer is the style of one of those over-the-door organizers, but it actually has a hook to fit in a closet. Either style of hanger will work just fine. You can put the kind that fits over a door on a branch and it will work perfectly.
I found mine at the dollar store, but you can also order similar styles from Amazon if you’re placing an order for camping supplies anyway!
Here you can see our organizer hanging in our campsite on a nail someone left in a tree, holding all kinds of odd and ends and making me extremely happy to have a clear picnic table to work at. 🙂
What to Use the Hanging Camping Organizer For
We already have a hanging toiletry bag (we use the family size L.L.Bean toiletry bag) that we use to organize toothbrushes, shampoo, sunscreen and all of that stuff, but this would work really well for toiletries if you need a way to organize those.
It’s also great for flashlights, glow sticks, cooking utensils, paper towels, tea towels, matches, sunglasses, etc. There are so many little things that you need to take along on a family camping trip and this will hold all of them!
I also really love the idea of having one of these hangers just for the kids. You could fill a few of the pockets with snacks and water bottles for them to grab easily when they get hungry and use the rest of the pockets for activity stuff to keep them busy! The pockets on the one we used are quite large so they can easily fit books, drawing supplies, small toys, balls, so many things!
If you’re heading out on a family camping trip this year, pick up one of these hanging organizers. I promise you’ll end up using it and you won’t regret it! I think I’ll definitely bring at least two more on our next trip now that I see how handy they are!
