We’re back to working on the built-ins in the living room after taking a break for quite a few months! Sometimes that just happens with our projects, but I’m happy to say that we have a bit of progress to report now!
Remember when we started on the living room fireplace and built-in bookshelf project back in January? Remember when it was just going to be a quick little project? Ha! Well, we got busy with the kids, and life, and all that, then we got some wood for trimming everything out that wasn’t so straight back when stores were only open for curbside pickup and we just didn’t know how to proceed at that point. But things are a little more normal-ish now and we’re back at it with this project! So here’s what’s been going on.
Where We Last Left You With This Project
When we last updated you on this project, we had the shelves installed, the new TV in place in its little nook, and things were really starting to take shape.
Since then, we’ve installed the backs of the bookshelves with their navy blue grasscloth backing, pieced together a mantel, and hooked up some pretty snazzy new brass lights above each shelf.
As you can see, I’ve also completely filled the shelves despite the fact that they’re nowhere near done. I’ve refused to let that stop me from enjoying them. 🙂 I’ve also completely changed everything around on them since we took these photos a few days ago. Ha!
Where We’re at Now With the Built-Ins
So here’s how things look now. We’ve also done quite a bit of trim work around each shelf and added some baseboards.
We really just have to finish up with the trim on the front of the fireplace and then close in the section above each shelf where the lights are mounted.
It’s always these situations where it seems like you’re almost done that are the trickiest, aren’t they? Each one of those “little” remaining tasks actually has so many little parts that need to come together perfectly. Hopefully we’ll find a few days here and there to get those things finished up. I’m dying to get everything painted!
One day soonish, I hope!
