Try making some of this DIY scented cleaning vinegar if you’d like to try cleaning more naturally with vinegar in your home, but don’t like the smell of regular vinegar!
I’ve always loved the simplicity of cleaning with vinegar. It’s really effective and totally natural, not to mention affordable! Vinegar definitely has a strong smell, but that smell goes away pretty quickly and it’s never really bothered me. I know a lot of people who really dislike the smell of vinegar though and it’s a shame that the smell deters them from trying this awesome natural cleaning solution! I decided to share with you how to make your own scented cleaning vinegar today so that you can clean with vinegar without having that strong vinegar-y smell!
I always love an excuse to make my home smell good, so this project was right up my alley. Even though the smell of vinegar doesn’t bother me, vinegar that smells good is definitely even better! Here’s my favorite quick way to make my cleaning vinegar smell amazing.
DIY Scented Cleaning Vinegar Recipe
To make this recipe you’ll need:
- Plain white vinegar
- Orange peels from about 2 oranges
- Whole cloves
- A glass jar
Start out by measuring out your vinegar. Measure out enough to fill the jar you’ll be using about 7/8 full. Heat this vinegar up until it’s almost boiling either on the stove or in the microwave.
Put your orange peels (just the peels, eat the fruit first) into your jar along with about a teaspoon of whole cloves.
Carefully pour the hot vinegar into the jar over top of the orange peels and cloves.
Close the jar up and let it sit for about 24 hours.
Strain the orange peels and cloves out and you’ll be left with just that lovely orange and clove scented vinegar!
You can also use other citrus fruits like lemons and grapefruits along with other herbs to make your own unique cleaning concoctions. 🙂
Use your scented cleaning vinegar in any cleaning recipes that call for regular vinegar. You can also pour some into a spray bottle with one part scented vinegar to one part water and use it as an everyday all-purpose cleaner!
Let me know what you think of this orange and clove scented cleaning vinegar if you try this one out! I’ve got a few other ideas for some different scents I’d like to try making, so let me know if you’re interested in seeing a few different scented cleaning vinegar recipes and I’ll share what I come up with! 🙂
