Use this list of what to clean in June as your simple guide to what jobs need to be tackled this month around the house.
June is definitely a month where we all like to be outside. For us especially, June is always full of end-of-the-school-year activities and the weather really heats up. We find ourselves stretched a little thin between scheduled activities, trying to get in as much planting and early summer maintenance in the garden, and just trying to take advantage of all the fun opportunities that the warm weather brings like hiking, beach days, soccer, and tennis. I like to use some of the easy little tasks listed below to help me feel like I’m still getting things done and also as a bit of an excuse to take a quiet moment inside out of the sun here and there. If this sounds like a good plan to you, here’s what to clean in June.
What to Clean in June Around Your Home Indoors and Out
I love to put together these lists of what to clean each month because they make the whole process of keeping on top of cleaning around the house so much less overwhelming. I pick ten items that are perfect to do at exactly this time of year, so we’re doing just the right thing at the right time and not wasting time on things that don’t need to be done yet, or that we’ll end up having to re-do in a month or two. Efficiency is the name of the game here!
Clean Outdoor Light Fixtures
You might not be using your porch light as often these days because of the longer daylight hours, but this is a really easy and satisfying job to check off your list. You might be surprised how dirty your outdoor light fixtures get and what a difference it makes to sweep away the cobwebs and wipe them down a little.

Clean Exterior Door Thresholds and Trim
Look down and all around. Your exterior door thresholds collect a lot of dust and debris that you probably don’t notice on a daily basis. Trim can get scuffed and bumped with all the traffic passing through your door. A little wipe down of these areas will go a long way, but I’ll give you bonus points if you touch up the paint as well. 🙂
Cooking Utensil Storage Areas
Whether you keep your cooking utensils in a crock, in a drawer, or in a few different places, the areas where you store them can get a a bit grimy, especially if you ever find yourself reaching for just the right utensil while you’re up to your elbows in your cooking task. Clear these areas out and give them a good cleaning before you put the utensils back. You might be surprised to find that it only takes a minute or two, but this task makes such a big difference.
Medicine Cabinets
Take this opportunity to reorganize things a bit and while you’re at it, toss any products or medications that are expired or that you don’t use because they aren’t the best for you. Make a note of anything that you need to stock up on or replace as you’re cleaning things out and add it to your shopping list.
Also Great to Clean in June: Suitcases
Dust them off, wipe down the exteriors, and vacuum the interiors. Now is a great time to get them all ready for all the summer adventures that are about to unfold.
Declutter Cord Storage Areas and Declutter
Everyone has this spot in their home, full of essential extension cords and adapters, but also lots of cords that belong to things that you stopped using and got rid of long ago. This task will go by quickly and you’ll love the resulting tidiness compared to what was there before.
Vacuum Behind Dressers, Shelves, and Desks in All the Bedrooms
This is probably something that you don’t often find the time to do, but you know there are all kinds of dust bunnies lurking back there. Once you just do it, it won’t take long and you’ll be so glad everyone has a less dusty room to sleep in.
