If you find yourself with an earache, reach for the coconut oil in your cupboard first before trying out any over-the-counter medicines. It’s amazing how you can fix an earache with coconut oil!
This was a pretty exciting discovery for me a couple of years ago. When I was a teenager I lived in the freakishly cold tundra of the north in Edmonton, Alberta and I used to get a lot of earaches because of the cold. Antibiotic ear drops were my best friend in the winter. I wish I had know then that you can fix an earache with coconut oil so easily!
One particularly cold winter a couple of years ago, one much like the one we’ve had this year, I got yet another one of my famous ear aches. I had heard somewhere that coconut oil was good for earaches so I decided to test it out!
I was so. surprised.
It worked! Almost immediately! Just like the antibiotic ear drops with the painkillers in them!
I now make sure to tell everyone about this whenever they have an earache because it’s just so great. Who doesn’t love a good natural solution that actually works?
So here’s what you do.
First, grab some coconut oil, a medicine dropper, a mug, and a little bowl.
Fill the mug with hot water. Hot water from the sink will do just fine, but I usually use the hot water from the insta-hot tap on our water dispenser.
Rest your little bowl on top of the mug of hot water and place about a teaspoon of coconut oil into the little bowl.
You want to gently warm and melt the coconut oil, but you don’t want it to be too hot obviously! You don’t want to place anything too hot in your ear of course, but you also don’t want to over heat the oil and compromise any of the natural antibacterial and antiviral properties of the coconut oil.
To place the coconut oil in your ear, suck up a few drops into the medicine dropper.
Lay on your side with the affected ear pointing up towards the ceiling and slowly squeeze the oil out into your ear.
It will be immediately soothing and the oil will get to work killing off the source of the ear ache! If needed, you can repeat this procedure a couple of times a day for the next few days, but I’ve actually had it work for me on the first try whenever I’ve tried it in the past!
I should definitely let you know that I’m not a doctor and this shouldn’t be taken as medical advice. I’m just a mom who likes to share things that have worked for her! If you suspect your ear drum is injured, don’t place coconut oil into your ear. If you have any dizziness or if your earache won’t go away, definitely go see your doctor.
Have you ever tried to fix an earache with coconut oil? How did it work for you?
