Today I’m sharing my picks for modern traditional entryway essentials. These are the basic foundational pieces in the room that will help your space look beautiful and function the way it’s supposed to.
Whether you have a mudroom, a foyer, or a front door that opens right into your living room, you need somewhere to put things down, check yourself on your way out the door, and create a welcoming scene for guests. Today’s post is all about laying a good foundation for the entryway to your home. There’s something so comforting about having a set-up that meets your needs exactly, right by the front door, but doesn’t take up much space at all. And of course, it makes sense to make this a beautiful area as well, if possible, since this is the first thing anyone sees when they come through the door. Here are some of my favourite “formulas” for a modern traditional entryway.

Modern Traditional Entryway Formulas That Work
Rectangular Rattan Mirror + Curved Metal and Glass Console Table +Neutral Tone Traditional Runner (under $120)
In this grouping, the dark metal console table anchors the space (and adds so much storage!), while the mirror and the runner bring texture and softness to the space. When using so many different diverse finishes, it’s important that things tie together, so it’s notable here that the greys in the rug and the rattan mirror speak to each other. I especially love the curved detail on the console table and I think the bottom shelf would be so fun to use as extra shoe storage for your most special pairs.

Warm Neutral Lamp + Feels Like Home Book + Travel Home Book + Dark Matte Pottery Vase
Oversized Round Mirror + Elegant Wood Console + Warm Neutral Runner (Washable!)
Everything here is quite oversized and suitable for a space where you have a long, empty wall. When you have a console table with special details like this one, it’s a good idea to choose a mirror with a beautiful finish on the frame like this one has. A very basic, flat finish would look too plain here and would just make the mirror look cheap. If you click over to see the runner in a little more detail, you’ll see there’s quite a bit of a golden tone mixed in to the pattern, which works well with the gold mirror and the beautiful warmth of this wood console table.
Style it With
Chunky Neutral Lamp + Black Recycled Glass Beads + Organically-Shaped Stoneware Bowl
Arched Gold Mirror + Woven Material Console Table + Darker Runner
To me, this formula is kind of modern traditional with a twist. We have some pretty modern shapes with the mirror and console table, but done in finishes that you often find in a more traditional setting, and then a more traditional runner, but done in a more neutral, modern palette. The darkness of the runner helps to anchor everything else with the lighter finishes.
Style it With
Aged Brass Tray + Black Marble Object + White Fluted Vase
Black Oval Mirror + Petite Wood Console Table + Jute Runner
This set-up is perfect if you have a really tiny space, but still want to create a space that is classic, eye-catching, and functional. I love how this console table is small in scale, but big on style. The oval mirror repeats the curved lines, and the sisal runner makes the grouping feel a bit more casual and approachable, not stuffy and precious the way a more formally patterned runner might in this case. This demi-lune table would be beautiful as well. I always love a good demi-lune, as I’ve mentioned before. 🙂
Style it With
Classic Blue and White Umbrella Stand + Understated Decorative Box + Large Wicker Basket
