Try these cake mix brownies the next time you need a quick dessert for a potluck, holiday, or a bake sale. They couldn’t be quicker to bake and the results are always decadent and foolproof.
I really need to make these cake mix brownies more often. As much as I love to bake a beautiful batch of cookies, I can get to be a bit of a perfectionist about the whole process and my baking endeavors do usually end up being a bit time-consuming. This cake mix brownie recipe really is the easiest option if you’d like to make a quick, shareable, crowd pleasing dessert for a family gathering or a get-together. And who doesn’t love brownies? With a prep-time of just a few minutes, and almost non-existent clean-up time, these little bars of indulgent chocolatey goodness might become your new best friends. Here’s how to make fudgy brownies from cake mix.

Ingredients Needed for the Easy Cake Mix Brownies Recipe
You’ll need:
- Chocolate cake mix (If you’re out of store-bought or you prefer not to use it, you can make your own homemade chocolate cake mix to use as well!)
- Melted butter or a plant-based substitute
- Milk or any non-dairy milk if you prefer
- Eggs or a plant-based option (chia eggs would be great for this)
- Semisweet chocolate chips
If you’re someone who always has a box of cake mix or two hiding in the back of your baking pantry, this is a perfect excuse to clean out your kitchen cabinets and use it up. The addition of the chocolate chips really makes these bakery-worthy in my opinion, but this brownie batter will still bake up beautifully for you if you don’t have any chocolate chips on hand or if you’d prefer to leave them out.

How to Make Brownies From Cake Mix
Start out by preheating your oven and preparing your baking dish. I like to use a square baker measuring 8×8 lined with parchment paper. Whether you use a baking pan made of metal, glass, or one made of ceramic like mine, I don’t recommend using anything larger than an 8×8 pan because your brownies will end up being a bit too thin.
Combine your ingredients except the chocolate chips together in a large mixing bowl and whip them all together until everything is combined into an even mixture using a strong wooden spoon or a rubber spatula. The batter will be quite thick. Stir about 3/4 of the chocolate chips into the batter, reserving the remaining 1/4.
Peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, or butterscotch chips would be excellent variations as well if you’re looking to try something a bit different with your next batch.
Transfer your batter to the prepared baking dish and smooth it out to fill the entire pan. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips evenly overly the top.

Bake the brownies for 30 minutes, then remove them from the oven. The center of the brownies may be a bit soft, but they will firm up as they cool. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before removing them by lifting the parchment. Slice the brownies into small squares and enjoy!
