In today’s post I’m sharing a few different photos of rooms that I haven’t had the chance to show you yet this summer, as well as a look at our latest project!
I know that we technically have almost a full month of summer left, but for some reason whenever we get closer to September it seems like summer is really coming to an end. I realized that I have quite a few photos that I’ve taken over the past little while that I either haven’t had the chance to share yet, or that I’ve only shared on Instagram so far. So I thought I’d put together a little summer farmhouse tour for you. 🙂 We’re also up to our necks in a really fun new project, that you haven’t seen yet if you haven’t kept up with me on Instagram in the last few months, so I thought it was time to let you in on that as well!
My Summer Farmhouse Mini Tour
So first, here’s how things have been looking over the last couple of months.
We started out the summer this year by installing new vinyl plank flooring in our kitchen. I have loved every second of having these new floors! They’ve been so easy to clean and we’ve really put them to the test. We’ve had watermelons smashed on them and full glasses of strawberry smoothie dropped on them and they haven’t even flinched. 🙂
Just recently, I shared with you how I had made my own boxwood wreath using clippings from our hedges. Funny story about these photos: We actually took them back in June, but then my Thrifty Style Team group decided to take the month of July off from doing our big group blog-hop-style post so I just saved the photos until our August posting date came around! I couldn’t use this photo below in the post at that point because it really showed just how long it had been since I had taken the photos. The hydrangeas weren’t even blooming yet at that point! (You can read more about how I learned to make my hydrangeas bloom and thrive beautifully here, by the way!)
I took a few photos of our back hall mudroom looking all fresh and summery at one point. We did this room really inexpensively by building all of the storage components of the room ourselves, and it’s still one of my favourite spaces. This room is so easy to keep tidy even though it actually holds a whole lot of our stuff!
I discovered a plant growing along our creek called “swamp milkweed” that has the most ridiculous name, but actually makes a really beautiful cut flower. I used the discovery to do a little mini photo shoot of Chuckers in his natural habitat, the couch. 🙂
Our dining room has been a bit of a dumping ground for papers, puzzles, and charger cables all summer long. It’s really right in the middle of our house, so it kind of becomes a landing spot for things that are in transit. It started to bug me a bit, so I put all the stuff in its proper homes, then I moved a lot of our plants in here since this is quite a sunny room in the summer time. I actually really like the greenhousey effect of piling all of our house plants together in one room like this!
Our Latest Project on Our Old Farmhouse
So that brings us to our big project that we’ve been working on over the summer months this year! As you know, we added a little side porch on to the side of the house where you enter into the mudroom last year, so this year we decided to keep the porch theme going and do a big front porch as well! It just seemed wrong to have an old farmhouse without a proper front porch and I really like the idea of having a front door that can actually be used as an entrance from time to time.
This front porch project is quite a bit bigger in scope because it’s much larger, but also because it involves us adding a roof onto the front of the house and re-siding the front of the house as well. It’s really totally transforming the way our house looks from the road so I’m pretty much over-the-moon about the whole thing. Here’s a look at how the process has looked for far!
So that’s what has been going around here this summer! Looking forward to sharing more developments on the new front porch as the happen!
