Vinyl plank flooring is quickly becoming a top flooring choice for home renovation experts everywhere and now we know why! Here are some of the many reasons why we chose vinyl plank flooring for our kitchen update this spring!
We’ve really wanted to replace the worn out peel ‘n stick tile that had been in our kitchen since we moved into our house eight years ago, but had never really found the right solution. So the old flooring stayed. I had been so against all of the old versions of vinyl flooring for so long because of how terrible and plasticky they always looked. We started to realize in recent years, however, that some type of vinyl was going to be necessary to use in the kitchen because of how wavy the floors are in there, which is a pretty common problem in old houses. We needed something with some flexibility. Then a magical thing happened: I started to realize that I actually like the way that the vinyl plank flooring that’s being made now looks. The technology really has come a long way in recent years and now I’m actually glad that we waited as long as we did to update these kitchen floors!
After installing these and some different types of vinyl plank flooring in a family member’s home, Chris actually says he doesn’t see why we would ever use anything else!
Reasons to Choose Vinyl Plank Flooring
Even if you aren’t dealing with wavy, 100-year-old floors, there are so many reasons why vinyl plank flooring is the perfect choice for so many different rooms in your home.
It’s Waterproof
Unlike wood or laminate floors, vinyl plank flooring is completely waterproof so spills or muddy foot prints are never a concern,
It’s Easy to Clean
Speaking of muddy feet (and paws) you can wipe vinyl flooring down with soap and water for perfect cleanup of any type of spill and it doesn’t absorb odors at all.
It’s Super Durable
Vinyl plank flooring can withstand just about anything you can throw at it. There’s no need to worry about chips or scratches if you drop something on it.
It’s Beautiful
I’m still so amazed at how much I love the way our new vinyl floors look! I can’t believe how great the flooring manufacturers have gotten at making these floors look so great in recent years. The colors, pattern variation and texture are really amazingly realistic.
It’s Easy-to-Install
Vinyl planks lock together quickly and require very few tools to install so they’re perfect for even beginner DIYers.
It’s Slip-Proof
A lot of vinyl planks these days are made with a coating that makes them completely non-slip. Our dog Chuckers really appreciates this feature. It makes me wonder: Why were we making all other types of flooring so slippery for so many years?
It’s Inexpensive
Vinyl flooring is available at many different price points, but I love that it’s pretty easy to find it on sale for super cheap and that the more inexpensive varieties don’t look cheap. We’ve seen a lot of really beautiful options for less than $2/square foot recently!
It’s Comfortable to Walk on
The new types of vinyl plank are warm and comfortable to walk on. They don’t have that cold, sticky feel that the old vinyl floors used to have.
It’s Quiet to Walk on
I also really love that our new floors are quiet! They don’t creak, squeak, or click the way some laminates can or the way old vinyl used to as it got older.
All the Cool Kids are Doing it
One of the first things that made us look into vinyl flooring options more seriously was that we noticed that it was being used more and more as a whole-house flooring option in a lot of design shows. Of course, these shows usually have to work with a pretty strict budget, so that’s probably a motivating factor, but there’s no denying how great those houses look when they show the final “before and after” shots! It definitely made us think that maybe there was something to this whole vinyl plank flooring thing after all!
Do you have vinyl plank flooring in your house? Would you ever consider it?
