This project has been about a year in the making for me, but you can probably throw one together for yourself in less than an hour. 🙂 It all started late last fall. You may remember that we made this long trough to go on our kitchen table at the beginning of the holiday season last year. We had painted it a really nice, unusual purpley grey color that actually looked really amazing with the pinecones and shiny Christmas ornaments that I had in there. I put the trough box away in the basement after Christmas last year but I really love it, so I wanted to bring it out again this fall and try it with some pumpkins. The purpley color just wasn’t going to make sense for fall though, so I went ahead and painted it in a darker grey for this season.
These trough boxes are so versatile and so easy to make if you have the tools. If you aren’t handy with woodworking, you can find them online pretty easily. I like this rustic wood one here. It’s not quite as long as mine, but I think it would make an awesome display anyway. You could even do two or three down the length of your table it it’s really long. If you don’t want to re-paint every season, you can of course just keep it the same color and just switch out what you put in it as the months go by.
I think one of these trough boxes filled with pumpkins and other fall-time goodies is such a great classic farmhousey fall look. I love that we have such a long table so I’m really able to go crazy with this look and have these cute little pumpkins running all down the table. I also added in a couple of these faux antlers that I found at Michaels this year and I think they add just a little extra something. 🙂
My pumpkins are real, but I think painted dollar store pumpkins look great too in something like this. Dollar store pumpkins can sometimes look not-so-great on their own, but when you group them together, it’s fall-time magic!
Check out my post from last year for more details on how to build your own pumpkin filled trough box, then gather your pumpkins and you’ll be all ready for fall in no time!
Don’t forget to pin this idea so you can remember to make your own!
