I really love a fresh-smelling home. It boosts my mood and makes me feel like all is right in the world. That being said, I can’t really ignore all the bad things I read about how some of the air fresheners that you can buy in the stores are just loaded with toxic chemicals. There are a lot of more natural and healthy home scent products you can get too, which are great, but sometimes it’s fun to experiment, make your own, and know exactly what it is that you’re spraying into the air you breath.
Making your own air freshener spray is soooo easy too, so why not?
The ingredients are simple:
-Essential oil in your choice of scents
Essential oils can be bought online or in health food type stores. The ones that I buy are usually between $6-10 per bottle and the bottle lasts a long time. You can use just one type of oil, or you can get creative and mix a few together to create something fun.
Here’s how you do it!
Place about 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a bowl.
Drip in about 30-35 drops of essential oil. Most other recipes say 15-20 drops, but I just like it a little stronger. The baking soda will help carry the oil and allow it to mix in with the water so the whole thing doesn’t separate.
Mix it together and funnel it into an empty spray bottle.
Top your bottle up with water, give it a little shake, and you’re good to go! You can add a little label too if you’re so inclined. Feel free to be a little more creative with it than I was.
And now you’ve got your own homemade air freshener!
Spray away and breath easy!
