If you’ve found that you’ve had a need for a way to keep lemons and limes fresh for longer, I’m here to help! This one really works!
I have another fun little kitchen tip to share with you today! This lemon in the jar trick is one that I was pretty excited to discover because I like to have fresh lemons and limes around, but I never seem to be able to actually use them up before they start to get a little sad and shrivel-y looking. I really needed a way to keep my lemons and limes fresh. One of my new year’s resolutions was to spend more time cooking fun things, just because it’s something that I really enjoy, and that means having more different types of fresh produce around and ready to go whenever the mood to cook strikes. I always love a good tip that helps me keep everything fresh for a little longer so I can keep my fridge stocked at all times without having to worry about wasting anything.
This is one of those old fashioned tricks that I think used to be more common knowledge, but that we’ve kind of forgotten about for the most part. I think that since it’s become so much easier to just run to the store and grab something, or throw something in the fridge or freezer, we’ve kind of gotten away from putting much thought into keeping things fresh. It’s a bit sad though, because over time we’ve realized that we do still need these tips to make our lives run just a tiny bit more smoothly, but somewhere along the way we just sort of stopped passing these ideas around.

How to Keep Lemons and Limes Fresh
You start out with a jar with a lid.
I like these large canister types of jars because I can fit quite a few lemons and limes in here and pull them back out quite easily when I need them.
When you get home from the grocery store, plunk your freshly-bought lemons and limes into the jar.
Then fill the jar all the way to the top with water. Make sure you fill it all the way so the lemons and limes are completely covered and can’t float to the top to get unsubmerged. That’s not a word, but you know what I mean. 🙂
Replace the lid on the jar, stick it in the fridge, and you’re done! Your lemons and limes will now stay fresh for weeks instead of days! I like to drain the water quickly and put fresh water in the jar whenever I go to grab a lemon or a lime, but I have no evidence that this is really necessary so far. It just seems like a good idea. 🙂
This trick couldn’t be simpler, and it seems almost a little too simple to really work, but it does! It also looks kind of pretty in your fridge, which is a bonus! 🙂 Hope this one will be useful for you in your kitchen!
