I used to do these monthly review posts a few years ago and they were really fun. I found back then that a lot of readers actually had missed some of the projects that I shared and really did enjoy the opportunity to click and around and see what they missed. I decided on a whim just now to start putting these posts together again, partially because I remembered how helpful they were, and partially because I just realized what a great month we had around here and how many things we got done! 🙂 So if you missed anything, here it is!
In Real Life
September was mostly an incredibly hot month so we started the month out going to the beach quite a bit, but near the end things started to cool off juuuust enough that it almost seemed like a good temperature to finally go do our usual fall apple picking and corn maze-ing.
Cooking
There was definitely a lot of crock pot-ing going on around here this month! We finished up zucchini season as well and found a whole bunch of recipes to try out with all of that frozen zucchini from the garden.

Crock pot chicken and rice casserole with broccoli and cheddar
How to make baked sweet potatoes in a slow cooker
Crock pot Buffalo chicken casserole
Zucchini Recipes that you will never get bored of
Cleaning and Homekeeping
I told you about the dangers of those metal bristled grill brushes and showed you a better way to clean your BBQ
We talked about the right way to spot clean upholstery (I’m an expert at this now thanks to having a toddler boy!)
And I shared the simplest household binder system ever. I actually use my household binder now! 🙂
We also talked about a few areas of your home that we all need to start thinking about sanitizing a little more regularly now that we’re heading into the dreaded cold and flu season!
DIY Projects and Renovating
We’ve been mostly working away at turning our garage into a functional work space this month, adding in built-in workbenches, shelves and other storage solutions. One of the jobs we tackled for that was refinishing this old metal workbench we had in there. We were going to throw it out and now it pretty much makes the whole space!
I shared a printable PDF of the plans for our master bathroom vanity that so many of you have asked us about. Now you can just print the plans off and bring them to your cabinet maker so they can make the exact same cabinet for you instead of me trying to explain all of the different dimensions and how everything comes together. 🙂
We finished up our DIY projects by hanging this quick 45 second DIY fall wreath on the mudroom door. I’m so glad it’s starting to get cool enough now that we can start adding some fun fall decor around here.
And that was the month! I hope you enjoyed this little review and I really hope that you found some of our projects this month to be helpful in your own home!
