It’s time for another month in review post! October was another busy month around here and I think I managed to share quite a few fun and useful ideas this month again. If you missed anything this month, here’s your chance to do a quick catch-up!
In Real Life
October was a super super extra busy month for our family. Kennedy had a really full schedule with her fall soccer league and we did quite a bit of traveling for that. We spent a lot of time at various soccer fields around Michigan like we always do in the spring and fall, but we also had a tournament all the way down in Virginia, which is a 10 hour drive away! It was pretty amazing to drive through the mountains in Pennsylvania though with all the fall colors everywhere so you won’t hear too many complaints from me!
We were so close to Washington DC, that we just had to extend our trip by a few more days so we could tour around there a little bit and take in all the sights.
It’s so much fun to travel to new places, stay in hotels, and spend time with all of the other soccer families during these busy competition seasons, but we’re really looking forward to having a few months now where we get to (mostly) stay home, sleep in our own beds, and get back into a little bit more of a “normal” routine.
Cooking
With fall in full swing, this month was definitely all about delicious treats and cozy family meals. I shared a bunch of easy Crock Pot comfort food recipes that will really hit the spot during these next few cooler months.
Of course, you can’t have an October without pumpkin, so I showed you how to make your own pumpkin puree…using the slow cooker of course so it’s super easy-peasy…
…and how to make your own pumpkin spice blend, so you’re always ready to whip up a pumpkin-something-or-other when the mood strikes!
Homekeeping
Now that we’re heading in to flu season, chances are that a lot of us are going to have a least one flu going through our homes at some point fairly soon. I wish it wasn’t true, but it is! I shared my trick for making your home smell fresh and clean again and getting rid of that lingering “sick smell” that you can get, especially when you have young kids in the house.
Switching gears (haha, pun intended), we talked a little bit about fall car maintenance and I shared how you can switch out your own cabin air filter and save a lot of money. DIY to the rescue again!
Blogging and Working from Home
I shared with you my thoughts on why everyone should have a blog…
…and also talked about some of my tips for getting work done when you’re on the road and living out of suitcases like we often are.
I also shared another little update on the process of writing my book! We’re getting so close to the launch date!
DIY
There were a lot of fun DIY projects going on around here this month!
We kicked off baseball playoff season by sharing a bunch of really cute DIY baseball projects that you can make to celebrate the baseball fan in your life. Save this one for ideas for when baseball season kicks off again in the spring too!
By the end of October, we switched our focus to Halloween, first with some outdoor Halloween decor ideas that you can whip up yourself to make your front yard fun and festive…
…and then with these DIY wood scrap ghosts. I just think these are so fun and cute looking!
Finally we made these candy corns for decorating indoors using just a few little pieces of 2×4 that we have left over from other projects. I love projects like this that are practically free to make!
I hope you found at least a few ideas this month that were helpful and inspiring for you in your everyday life. I’m looking forward to another busy and productive month ahead and I hope you are too!
