If you’ve never made your own party invitations using one of the free online photo editing programs, you’re missing out! Kennedy and I have been making them for her birthday and also for other occasions like Halloween parties for the last few years. It’s so easy that she usually designs them all by herself and I just help with finding the right paper to print them out on. Making your own invitations is so much faster than going all the way to the store to pick up those little fill-in-the-blanks cards and you don’t have to spend hours re-writing the same info down on each card using your best penmanship! 🙂 I’m teaming up with BeFunky again today to share with you a super-duper easy way to make your own stylish and impressive DIY invitations using their new Designer Toolset!
When they asked me to show you how to make these printable invitations, I was all set to go through the process of designing them with you, step-by-step, but as soon as I got in and actually started playing around with the new Designer Toolset, I realized just how easy they’d made my job for me, and for you! You know how much I like things that are easy-peasy! 🙂 With the designer tool set, you have the choice of using a blank template or just using one of their super-cute pre-made designs that take all the guess work out of the process!
So don’t worry at all if you have absolutely no design skills and can’t make something cute on a computer to save your life, they’ve done all of the hard work for you!
Are you ready to get started? OK, let’s do this!
I decided to make an invitation for a birthday party for Jack’s second B-day, coming up in December. If there’s one thing in life that he loves, it’s tractors, or “dootders” as he calls them, so I wanted to find something that would look good for a tractory/farmy themed birthday.
To start out, visit BeFunky.com and click on the button that says “designer”.
And you’re in!
You can find the designs for the party invitations under the “event graphics” header on the left hand side of the page.
There are a lot of other really useful designs and resources in there too, so you’ll want to come back and check those out later too. You’ll see what I mean once we get into this invitation project a little more.
Choose “invitations” and then sit back and behold all the choices that pop up in front of you!
So many fun choices! I’m so impressed by how great these designs are. They’re easily as cute as any of the designs that you can find to buy online at one of those fabulous photo printing websites. But they’re free! They’re yours for the taking!
I picked one that I liked and now I’m going to show you how to make the design work for your party!
First let’s deal with that picture. It’s neither a picture of Jack, nor is it a picture of a tractor so it just won’t do!
To change the picture, just click on the image manager (the little mountain) in the far left side bar. From there, you can either upload a picture from your computer, or facebook, or your BeFunky profile, or you can use my favorite, pixabay. Pixabay is BeFunky’s free online stock photo partner and you can search for an image of just about anything you can imagine right there in BeFunky without having to find one somewhere else, save it to your computer, and then upload it into BeFunky to see if it works. The world (in pictures) is right there at your fingertips!
..so anyway, I went ahead and clicked on pixabay and then searched for “tractor”. 🙂
When I found what I was looking for, I just selected it, then dragged it over to replace the picture of the random boy named Nolan with the cute teeth.
Changing out the sample text on your design is super easy. Just click on it and start typing! I had previously looked up some different ideas for tractor party invitations and there was one little phrase that was really popular that I liked, so I used it!
After I typed in the first two lines of the phrase and then re-sized them to fit in the space, I still needed a third line of text to fit in what I wanted to say, so I needed to add in extra text to the design. Super easy!
If you need to add text too, just click on the “T” in the sidebar, type in your text in the box that pops up, then re-size it to fit where you need it. After that you can play around with all the fonts and colors a bit. Here’s how mine looked:
Lookin’ good, right?
Just click on each little bit of text after that and change up the details so that they fit with your party and then you’re done!
This creation only took me about 5 minutes up to this point and it looks like a million bucks!… or at least $50 bucks, which is what it probably would have cost me to order these and have them printed and shipped to me on one of those other fabulous websites that I mentioned before.
Once your design is complete, all you need to do is print it out! You can either print them out at home, or you can send them off to wherever you usually have your photos printed in your town and get them done that way for a really crisp image quality. It’s actually still really cheap to do it that way, and if you get them printed on matte paper, they’ll look really fancy and high end.
I sometimes have them printed for me, but I do still often print them off at home if I need them done quickly. I picked up this paper cutter for myself as a treat last year and it’s been the best thing for projects like this.
My cuts are always perfectly straight and it really saves me time trying to fuss with scissors and my non-surgeon-like cutting skills. 🙂
Mine has a little roller that you just push along the track there to cut, so no blade is ever exposed. Neat, right? So if you’ve always been worried about doing DIY paper projects like this because of your scissor cutting skills, this, along with the BeFunky Designer Toolset, are just what you need!
Don’t worry, I’ll definitely be emailing my contact there right away to make sure that they get started working on some more awesome designs for us soon. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could all do our Christmas cards like this too? I’ll see if I can convince them to start working on that for us. 🙂 Until then, go check it out! I’m sure you’ll find something that will come in handy over there!
