I would almost be willing to bet that every single person reading this post has at some point lived in a house that had at least one of these light fixtures in it.
You remember these, right? They were pretty much the standard for bedroom light fixtures in the 70’s and 80’s from what I can tell.
Sometime around then, they were installed in all three of our upstairs bedrooms and now we’re working on getting rid of them all. This is the one that came out of the room we’re working on right now and I thought I’d try to see if I could play around and make something with it.
Here’s how it went:
OK, well first of all, obviously, I cleaned it.
Next, Kennedy painted it with some craft paint to cover up the white glass.
Once the paint was dry, we got a mixture of water and white glue, and used that to stick some loose-weave burlap onto it.
I added in the extra piece in the middle, just for extra textury dimension in case I wanted to display something smaller in there.
We really coated it in the glue/water mixture like crazy and tried to smooth everything down as best as we could.
There’s a little extra bunching in the corners, but that just ads to the whole rustic look of it.
Once the whole thing dried, it was as hard as a rock!
Now I have a brand new bowl to use around the house however I see fit.
Better yet, I’ve proven to myself that I can create something beautiful out of almost anything! Can you believe this used to be a tacky light fixture?
