In today’s post I thought I’d put together a little late winter farmhouse home tour so you could get a peak at how things are looking around here lately. Just for fun. 🙂
There are a lot of photos that we take around here that don’t really necessarily fit into a useful and interesting blog post, but that we share over on Instagram. Every once in awhile I like to bundle all those extra pictures up and put them together into a sort of a home tour, just so I can keep everyone who follows us over here on the blog totally up to date with everything that’s been going on. I just like to keep everyone in the loop. 🙂 So here’s our little late winter farmhouse home tour!
We really don’t get very much snow around here in the winter, and we really have had even less than usual this year, but we’ve had a bit here and there and we made sure to capture it. 🙂
Our mudroom is obviously a great place for corralling muddy boots, but we absolutely love it for snow gear. Just drop everything on the floor and the in-floor heating system dries everything so much more quickly!
Now that we have the new front porch, we find ourselves using the front door more often when we want to let Chuckers (the dog) out or even if we just want to step out to check the temperature. Let me tell you, this front entryway is pretty, but it’s definitely not as prepared for winter weather as the mudroom is. It’s much more appropriate for stepping out to the porch with a tea on a nice summer morning than it is for running across with snowy paws. If we keep wanting to use this door, I may need to invest in a coat rack and a big runner down this hallway.
I’ve been contemplating changing the hardware on our kitchen cabinets for about a year now and I still am. It’s definitely not a big priority, but we did recently have one cabinet knob break so I’m taking it as a sign. It still looks mostly the same in there as always though, for now.
One area that has been getting a lot of attention is the main living/dining room middle part of the house. Well, as much as we can give it. Remember a couple of week ago when I told you how Chris and I had launched a little side project taking photos for local makers, home builders, and small businesses? Well, it turns out that the need for such a service was quite high in our area and we’ve spent a lot of the time we would normally spend on home projects meeting up with local businesses to plan photo shoots. So basically, that has been just the funnest, most fulfilling thing ever, but we’re back to trying to squeeze our DIY projects into little slivers of time in the evenings again, just like back in the day when Chris was working outside of the home and not just with me here on the blog. Progress is slow, but there’s still progress!
You saw our fireplace project a little while ago and that wall mostly looks the same. We’ve added in a quartz slab hearth in front of the fireplace, completed some more framing for the fireplace surround, and we’ve done most of the wiring for the tv, fireplace, new lighting, and other electronic components. So basically, we’ve made good progress there but nothing that really makes a big visual impact yet. We’re getting closer to the “pretty” parts of the project though! Yay!
If you look at the living room from the opposite direction though, things are looking quite different compared to a few months ago. I’ve brightened the walls and the lamps up and added in a new Ruggable rug (that we were so lucky to have them provide to us). I honestly think all the extra color and brightness in this room has really helped to make our winter more enjoyable this year.
It’s just a cheerful room to spend time in now. 🙂
So that’s how things are looking around here lately! Hope you enjoyed this little tour. 🙂
