This post may be a little overdue. I’ve been using Pinterest to help readers find my content since the platform first started up quite a few years ago and it’s always been my intention to share some of what I’ve learned with my readers who are also bloggers (and wannabe bloggers), but for whatever reason, I just haven’t taken the time to sit down and put that post together yet. All those DIY projects, cleaning tips, and gardening ideas just keep piling up you know? 🙂
I see new bloggers starting out all the time and wondering just where to begin with everything and I totally get it. I was there once too! In a way, I’m still there because I have so many helpful little things that I want to tell you newer bloggers about that I just don’t know where to begin either! 🙂
Well, as luck would have it, my good friend Melissa from The Happier Homemaker kind of beat me to it, as far as Pinterest goes at least. She recently put out an awesome Pinterest course called Mastering Pinterest aimed at helping those who are just starting out on Pinterest and want to get it right, or those who have been using Pinterest for awhile without much direction and who haven’t really been achieving the results they want in terms of driving quality traffic to their blog.
I just have to say, Melissa is so laid back (being a mom of three boys and a military wife will do that) but she is so meticulous about this Pinterest stuff. She covers everything so you really understand not only what to do, but why you’re doing it.
Not to brag or anything, but I’m pretty smart when it comes to this Pinterest stuff and even I learned a few really helpful tips! If you’re feeling a bit lost when it comes to Pinterest, you will come out of this course feeling fully educated and confident in your Pinterest game.
I thought to celebrate the launch of Melissa’s new course, I’d share a few of my own favourite tips relating to Pinterest to get you started in the right direction. These are the little things that have actually been big things and have really contributed to my success on the Pinterest platform over the years.
Be Consistent
This is my number 1 tip! If you start with a Pinterest strategy, stick with it! Pinterest loves consistency, so make yourself a creature of habit and do the same thing, over and over, every day, and you’ll slowly start to build up to the results you’re looking for.
Give it Time
It takes time for Pinterest to trust you and to get used to what you’re doing, so give it time. You won’t see immediate results from a Pinterest strategy, but if you keep it up for a few weeks, Pinterest will catch on to what you’re doing and will start to see you as a reliable and high-quality Pinner, and you’ll be rewarded.
Ride it Out
There are times when the tides of the internet change and things are just slow. This affects Pinterest too! Traffic levels go up and down throughout the year, without fail, over and over again. If you see your traffic starting to dwindle, just keep going! Things will start to pick up again. Whatever you do, don’t panic and switch everything at once!
Pin What Your Followers Love
Melissa goes into this in a little more detail, but make sure that what you’re pinning is similar to what your followers love, which is you! 🙂 Pin great content that makes sense for your brand and even those pins that aren’t from your own blog content will help you build on Pinterest because you’ll gain followers! Don’t worry too much about following trends if those trends aren’t in line with your brand and what your followers have come to expect from you.
Don’t Overdo It
This is the one thing that I find to be a little challenging sometimes. A few pins are great, so a whole bunch of pins must be better right? Unfortunately, this just isn’t true. A few, well-timed, well-chosen pins work far better than a million pins coming from your account every second of everyday, every single time.
If you’re really wanting to dig in and up your Pinterest game, now’s the time of year to do it. Numbers can be kind of slump-ish across the board during the summer months, but things really start to ramp up in the last few months of the year. If you’re looking to take advantage of that, this is the time to go for it!
Melissa’s been nice enough to offer readers of The Creek Line House $50 off Mastering Pinterest so you can get started! Just use the code CREEKLINE when you sign up for her course!
If you’re looking to grow your blog, definitely, definitely dig into Pinterest before you worry about any other social media. It’s definitely been the biggest difference maker for me over the years and I don’t know where I’d be without it! You’ll hear many other bloggers tell you the same thing because it’s just the truth!
