Let’s talk a little more about back to school today, shall we? Specifically, those last-minute challenges that we can face in the last few days leading up to school and even the first few days back.
For me, the biggest last-minute challenge seems to be getting my Kennedy into the perfect non-ragamuffiny back to school outfit. More on that in a minute.
This year, I suspect we’ll be adding a new challenge because I’m completely certain that she’s going to regret not buying those super-cool stylish locker accessories that I was trying to talk her into when we did our first round of back to school shopping. It’s around grade four that kids start to notice this kind of thing isn’t it? What happens when she sees that everyone else’s locker is all decked out? What if the stores are all sold out of the coolest stuff by then? You know, the cool stuff like this:
I think this calls for a little behind-her-back shopping right now so I can save the day on the second day back to school when she realizes she wants all that stuff!
This year, dudley Canada is here to help us all out by tempting us with exactly the kind of cool gear Canadian students are going to be needing anyway!
My top three items for my behind-the-back locker save are:
-The Kit (in blue, when you see her room make over soon, you’ll understand)
-The Locker Mat (Canadian Winters: ’nuff said)
-The Hook (refer to the first rule of organizing: more hooks are always a good idea)
If any of these products sound like something you can’t live without, you can find all the info on dudley back-to-school products and where to buy them online!
Now, back to that first day of school outfit. We can really never seem to get it right. I’m the mom that tries really hard and maybe over-thinks it a bit, but honestly, my daughter has often gone back to school looking a little bit like an orphan for the first day of school. It’s finding that balance between what she thinks looks cool and feels comfortable, and what I think is acceptable (and cute!) that’s always the challenge.
But get this: dudley, maker of locks, good ol’ standard of reliability and durability since 1922, is trying to help with our student fashion woes too!
This could be a disaster right? It’s not necessarily something you’d expect from a company like that.
Honestly, it’s super adorable.
They’ve enlisted the help of real “student ambassadors” to launch their dudley #OOTD Facebook sweepstakes (#OOTD mean outfit of the day, in case you were confused and saying something like “pound ooted?” in your head) to give students real outfit ideas for back to school AND to give away dudley gear and a $500 shopping spree grand prize. So these students will be sharing outfit ideas from now until August 31 and if you have kids over the age of say, 8, you need to go look at them… See? Adorable. So cute with their bright shiny faces, looking all back-to-schooly. While you were there did you “like” dudley Canada and vote for your favorite outfit so you can be entered in the sweepstakes? No? OK, go back. I’ll wait.
There! Now you’re all set!
And I’m almost all set. Like I’ve said before, I love that feeling of being totally, completely prepared for back-to-school so I’m going to hurry up and get this last little bit of shopping done now that I’ve been reminded about it. As for that first-day outfit? I’ll do my best. 🙂
How about your family? Do you make sure your kids’ lockers are all decked out too when you do your back to school shopping? Have any tricks for helping fourth graders with picking the perfect outfit that you can share with me?
