There are so many incredible uses for egg cartons! You’ll definitely want to start saving yours once you read this list!
It’s pretty amazing what you can do with an egg carton and a little bit of creativity. I came across this post from a few years ago featuring uses for egg cartons recently and I just couldn’t help but re-share it. Actually, there are a number of ideas in here that I’d forgotten about that I could definitely use. Even if you don’t eat eggs yourself, I’m sure you know someone who would gladly save a few cartons for you rather than toss them in the recycling bin. Jack is just starting to get interested in playing cards and #3 is going to come in handy for sure!
Super Clever Uses for Egg Cartons
1) Hold Small Christmas Ornaments
Use egg cartons to make your Christmas bins a little more organized and keep track of all those tiny doo-dads that always seem to get lost and crushed.
2) Transport Sweets
If you’re making mini cupcakes or other treats to bring with you to a party, they may just fit perfectly in an egg carton. Cut off the lid and it can even make a cute serving tray.
3) Hold Playing Cards for Kids
Kennedy loved this one. I can’t get over her cute little 8 year old face from 5 years ago!
I took a knife and cut slits in the bottoms of the egg separator thingies and she had a perfect playing card holder.
Definitely worth quite a few “cool mom” points.
(Side note: Referring to “cool mom” points automatically causes you to lose any of the previously mentioned points immediately. Still a good idea though.)
4) Organize Tiny Toys
Anyone else have a lego-obsessed household? Well, then no explanation needed.
5) BBQ helper
Cut the carton into sections and use it to serve ketchup and other condiments during a buffet-style meal. (Note: this might be a better idea for plastic egg cartons that you can wash thoroughly first, rather than the paper ones.)
6) Extra Ice Cube Trays
The foam or plastic egg cartons can be used as recyclable/disposable trays for making extra ice for a party.
7) Painting Tray
So handy for craft paints! We use ours over and over again after letting the paints dry right in the carton. Bonus: It’s kinda pretty don’t ya think?
8) Organize Small Hardware
Screws, nuts, bolts, nails, etc. can each get their own home and be easily transported around the house wherever you need them.
9) Seed Starter
Egg cartons are the perfect size for starting your garden from seed and they look so much cuter sitting in your kitchen window around Easter time than those big plastic seed starting trays.
10) Make Crafts
There are just a ton of great egg cartons craft ideas on the internet. Lots of great ideas for kids (who hasn’t made an egg cartons caterpillar?) but you’ll find some good ones that you may just want to make on your own as well!
So those are just a few of the great ideas uses for egg cartons. I bet you could come up with 1000 more if you really tried! I’m definitely going to be using a few of these ideas soon now that I’ve reminded myself of them!
Hope some of these ideas come in handy for you too!
