Great for DIY fall decor, this classic orb will look amazing in your home. Skip the expensive store-bought items and make this yourself. Here’s how!
This is such a fun and quick little project and it’s perfect for DIY fall decor. I’ve been seeing these home decor orbs in stores lately and the prices are just silly. I saw a little 4 inch orb for $19 the other day. It makes no sense to use those tiny, insignificant orbs when you can make something much larger and much more eye-catching so quickly and so cheaply! I thought I had to take a stand so today I’m going to show you how to make your own home decor orbs using simple embroidery hoops. 🙂
How Make Home Decor Orbs
You can use whatever size hoops you like, but I used the 8″ size so I could have something really substantial. You’ll need to pick up three hoops.
The first thing you’ll need to do is to separate each hoop into its two parts.
Next, paint or stain all of the hoop pieces inside and out and let them dry. I used my favorite “Early American” stain yet again. I find this color is always reliably perfect, especially with my other DIY fall decor. 🙂
Grab 4 hoop pieces and place them all together like this, so they form a spherical shape.
Make sure that one of your leftover pieces is one of the outer rings with the metal tightener on it. Take that outer piece, loosen it, and slide it over the middle of all 4 of the pieces you arranged into a sphere in the last step. Tighten ‘er up!
Done!

These orbs look great on tables, shelves, or just about anywhere you feel you have a blank space that needs a bit of interest. I also think these would be really amazing in the garden if you used outdoor paint or stain and sealed them really well!
