Make your own homemade ranch dressing mix using ingredients you already have in your pantry. Super convenient and economical, this mix is great to have on hand in your kitchen.
I’ve really been on a roll with making my own homemade seasoning mixes lately and this homemade ranch dressing mix was an absolute necessity for me to add to my spice cupboard. Well, actually, the part where I keep these little jars is a drawer, but you get the picture. 🙂
Those little packets of ranch dressing mix are a classic addition to so many recipes and ranch dressing itself is always good to have around the house for when a plate of fresh veggies pops up and needs to be snacked on. I love making my own seasoning mixes because it allows me to customize them to my own tastes, to learn what’s actually in those seemingly-magical pre-made mixes, and to save a bit of money, because usually what’s in those pre-made mixes isn’t actually so magical. In fact, a lot of these seasoning mixes I’ve been making were made with things that I already had in my cupboard, but when they’re mixed in a certain way, they just make a recipe come alive.
Fun, Economical and More Convenient
I love the idea of having this dry ranch mix instead of a bottle of ranch salad dressing in the fridge because the shelf life is much longer, and its so easy to whip up a little bit of ranch salad dressing or dip as needed.
Here’s how I mix my ranch dressing/seasoning mix:
Ingredients:
- 3 Tablespoons Parsley
- 2 Tablespoons Dill
- 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder
- 2 Tablespoons Onion Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Basil
- 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
Mix everything together and store it in a cool and dark place in an airtight container. This recipe makes enough to fill one little 4oz mason jar, but feel free to double or triple the recipe if this is something you like to use often!
Ranch Dressing
To turn this seasoning mix in to Ranch Dressing, mix about 1 Tablespoon of the mix with about 1/3 cup of mayonnaise or greek yogurt and a dash of milk (you can use plant-based substitutes for all of those last three ingredients as well, quite successfully). You can also use 2 tablespoons of this mix in all of your other recipes that call for a packet of ranch seasoning mix! A little nutritional yeast is pretty good (and healthy) in there too!
Making your ranch dressing this way with basic, real foods is so much better for you than using a store bought ranch dressing with all of the additives that you can sometimes find in there. And like I said earlier, it’s actually a lot more convenient when you get down to it!
Chances are that you have all of the ingredients for this recipe in your spice cupboard already, so why not test it out? Let me know what you think!
Do you have a favorite homemade ranch dressing mix that you mix up yourself? What would you add to this recipe?
