I’ve mentioned before how much I like adding a little bit of Christmas spirit into unexpected places around the house. I mean, almost everyone who celebrates Christmas decorates at least a little bit in their living room and dining room, but I have fun adding just a few things to places like the bathroom and the kitchen. This year I did the bedroom too, or rather, one wall of the bedroom. If we’re keeping things real around here, we still have some construction fallout going on in other areas of the room from when we put in the wall of cabinetry in the back hall, and from the bathroom renovation, and from when we ripped the wall down along one side and exposed the brick. That doesn’t mean that the side of the room where we have our bed can’t feel a little extra cozy and festive right now though, right?
Because of the state of the this side of the house, I’m pretty sure I haven’t shown you anything from this room for a good three years now. We used to have this really charming metal bed from IKEA that I just got endless compliments about. Unfortunately, they’re no longer selling this bed, and while we loved it, we decided to upgrade to a King size super fluffy grown-up mattress, so we don’t have such an eye-catching bed anymore. I do love our new button tufted headboard though that we installed a few months ago. It definitely makes a great backdrop for a cozy room like this.

I’m such a sucker for little pops of red in Christmas decor and I think this little pillow I picked up is just the right amount. Nothing too ridiculous but still lots of fun. I actually have a whole chapter in my new book The Cleaning Ninja all about making the bed and I have to say that I’m kind of breaking my own rule here with some of the other bedding. In the book I talk about why I don’t think it’s necessarily the best idea to have a throw blanket on the bed, and yet for these photos as least, I went ahead and threw the red plaid blanket in there because it just seemed wrong not to at least have a little bit of plaid.
Other than just adding in those 2 Christmassy items to the bed, I brought in a few of my old standy-by faux amaryllises that weren’t being used elsewhere, a couple of extra wreaths that I was looking for a home for, just leaned up against the wall on top of the nightstands, and of course a good Christmas candle. 🙂 I like to work in here in the evenings lately so I like the cozy atmosphere that the candle provides.
Well, I managed to at least get those few photos in before Oreo thought the bed looked too cozy to resist and ran back in to resume his nap!
Doesn’t his face just look like he thinks that I’m the one who’s bothering him? Ha!
So that’s what I did to cozy up our room a little bit more for Christmas this year! I think I’m definitely going to have to come up with something just as cozy, but a little less Christmassy for the rest of the winter in here once Christmas is over. The snow’s really been coming down out there and I think a little extra coziness will definitely be in order for the rest of Winter this year! 🙂
