DIY Halloween decorations are the best! Follow along with this simple guide and make your own scrap wood ghost decorations. They look amazing!
I’m pretty excited about these DIY scrap wood ghost decorations that I have to share with you today. We put these together on a whim a few weeks ago, just to see how they would turn out, and I think they ended up being really cute! The best part is that they only took maybe 20 minutes each to make now that we’ve got our workshop properly set up and then a few minutes more to paint!
Here’s how we made them!
DIY Wood Ghost Decorations
We have so much scrap wood in our garage right now and what we used for these was actually some extra 3/4″ plywood cut into strips, but you could use any similarly-sized wood or even wood from old pallets for this project.
We cut a few smaller strips for the cross pieces that actually make up the shape of the ghosts.
Then, we used the brad nailer to attach our little strips to one long post piece. You can see that we ended up using a slightly bigger piece at the bottom to get a good ghosty shape. If you don’t have one of these handy brad nailers in your workshop, I definitely recommend getting one! It’s so quick and easy to use for all kind of nailing projects and it allows you to use tiny, almost undetectable nails for trim and for projects like this without using a whole big giant air compressor. Plus it’s cordless so it’s just super convenient, like a cordless drill, but for nails!
Once we had all the pieces attached, we drew the shape of a ghost and went over it with a jigsaw to cut it out. Then, all we had to do was paint it to make it look a little more spooky and rustic, and we were all set for decorating!
Make a Bunch!
Here’s one extra little tip that may come in handy for you if you decide to make more than one identical ghost like we did. Use the pieces that you cut off your first ghost and lay them over your strips of wood on the next ghost, then trace the outline. Bam! Exactly the same design!
And here are our finished ghosts in the front yard!
We made ours pointy so we could stick them in the ground wherever we want them easily. I think these would look great in flower pots by the front door too if your flowers are starting to look a little sad.
Make up Your Own Designs
These were actually so easy that we went ahead and made a quick little pumpkin too… just cause we were on a roll. 🙂
And there you have it! Super easy DIY Halloween decorations that you can make for almost free if you have some scrap wood laying around. These look so cute and cheerful in our front yard and I’m really glad we added them to our Halloween decorations this year!
