Why do they make box springs to look like that? All shiny and with those patterns that say “Look at me! I’m an exposed box spring!”. Well, if you’ve got a bed like Kennedy has that leaves your box spring hanging out for the world to see, then we’ve got just the ticket!
This is one of those little things that’s been on my to-do list for awhile and it was super satisfying to get it checked off. It only took a few minutes, but it made a whole world of difference. And once I get the DIY bed skirt finished that I’m working on for in there, watch out! It’ll be awesome tween room heaven up in here!
Here’s how you can cover up your ugly box spring too!
Start out with an exposed box spring that just isn’t working for you.
Cut enough strips of fabric to cover the exposed sides of your box spring. We had two sides that were visible, so I only needed two strips of fabric. I just held it up to the box spring to check for size and then added a little more to wrap around. Exact measurements really aren’t needed here. Then, I cut a little slit in the fabric and just ripped down the length of the fabric to get my strips. I trimmed them to the length that I needed by just laying them on the ground next to the box spring.
As you can see, my measurements were not perfect, but it totally doesn’t matter.
Next, you’ll want to iron your fabric a bit to get it looking nice and smooth and pretty.
All that’s left to do after that is lay the fabric over your box spring and start stapling!
If your staple gun is a little weak like ours is, just keep a hammer near by so you can hammer in any staples that don’t make it all the way into the box spring frame.
Keep your corners fairly neat, but remember that the top and bottom of the box spring will be hidden, so don’t agonize over it!
If you need to take a break at this point, it might help to put your baby in a bin so everyone can have a good laugh.
I know, right?!
Well, that’s what we really did, so how could I not share? Plus look how much he loved it!
Anyway, just like that, your box spring is all pretty!
And that’s it!
So much better.
Try it for yourself! This is such a great trick and it can work with any type of decor you have!
