I put this little shadow box together for Jack’s room and I was surprised by how much I like it. It’s one of those things where the final product is greater than the sum of its parts.
I bought this plain black shadowbox from Michael’s (using my 40% off coupon! These things can be expensive!) with the hopes of using it for another baseball-themed project. That project morphed into something else so I ended up having this extra shadow box to use up.
Although I like the way they look, I’m not usually a huge fan of shadow boxes cause they just seem kinda finicky to put together in a nice way. Like you need all kinds of different little doodads to fill them up, you know?
But then….. I made this one with all of two things in it, Jack’s birth announcement and the little hat he got in the hospital, and I love it!
The trick? Covering the backing first with a bold fabric helps to fill in the blank spots and really make for an eye-catching display. So if you’re not very crafty, or just not feeling very crafty at the moment, this is a neat way to do it.
I didn’t even bother hanging it up. I just popped it on the shelf and called it done.
I just think it’s the cutest.
So there we go! A shortcut to a shadowbox!
