An End to the Saga of the Sofa Slipcover

About 10 months ago, I got fed up with how my sofa looked, particularly the terribly worn out slipcover.

It was just all scratched up from cats and kinda sad and frumpy looking.

I was so excited about some of the affordable options I found in some really great pretty fabrics that I could get to replace this one. I really wasn't into spending $400 on a slipcover for an 8 year old sofa that we may just decide to replace any day now anyway.

That just didn't quite work out. I had to give it up after a couple of weeks because it was just looking terrible. If you ask Chris about that time in our life he'll tell you it was "The worst two weeks of my life." That may be a little dramatic, but it still wasn't working for us.

Somehow the fact that a new, crisp white slipcover from Ikea is only $100 had escaped me during all this time. I was under the impression that it was going to be hundreds of dollars.

Silly rabbit!

Here it is now! Nothing spectacular, but it's fresh and white and clean and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Best of all, it's the same old sofa we know and love and we get to love it for just a little longer now.

Of course, this is how it looks most of the time now:

I'm not scared of letting the animals on it, but the thick wool blanket protects it from any unnecessary paw prints.

I think I'm going to be doing a whole lot of laundry. Oh well. It's worth it!

We have bought several Klippan covers for our loveseat over the years. I love IKEA for this very reason- it only takes a very little amount of money to get a whole new room! My loveseats gone from everything from hot pink to blue to white. I love the versatility!

Good day! I know this is kinda off topic but I
was wondering which blog platform are you using for this
site? I'm getting tired of Wordpress because I've
had issues with hackers and I'm looking at options for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

It looks great! We have a white slipcover, too and my cat, in particular has messed it up more times than I can count. He has this ridiculous little habit of trying to climb up the chimney and then walking over the couch with his dirty little paws. Good thing slipcovers are washable!

That's what we ended up doing a couple years back to cover the dated pattern, and ours wasn't an IKEA couch but an expensive (what the heck was I thinking) custom one. We have washed it many many times and keep and old sheet on it for guys and dogs. I should probably get around to getting a new slip from IKEA. It kills me that I have seen them in US posts for $39 or so, but $100 is still cheaper than a new sofa.

Oops, forgot to mention how great it looks and that I had to chuckle about the worst two weeks comment. My guys are always telling me they don't like white slips, but too bad lol. Love the last photo of the cat and the tulips, and Kennedy's JD tractor in the background.

Last shot is amazing with the kitty. Your slip covers look great. The ones my daughter bought from Ikea were dry clean only. Glad you found some you can wash yourself. I have cream colored slip that I had made. I would love a good crisp white like yours. Thanks for the tip.

Great transformation.

I love a white sofa. Like you, I usually cover the seat with a throw for the kiddos. I got linen last time and it gets just as dirty as white. HHmmm...

Looks like a new sofa. What a difference a slipcover made. I'm going to surf on over to Ikea myself and see if there is a slipcover to fit my 1980's flowered love seat. Thanks so much.
