As a home blogger, I kind of have an obligation to bring you inspiration and pretty pictures to look at. I most definitely should have some kind of designer Christmas tree.
I mean, having a kids' tree is fine. Multi-colored lights and mis-matched ornaments aren't the end of the world, but really I should have a second tree (or a third or a fourth) that's all done up "properly".
I just didn't feel like it. We usually put the second tree in the kitchen, but we're having a big new table delivered in there and I just wanted to leave the extra space empty to move around in while I'm setting up and enjoying the new table.
I cringed a little when Kennedy insisted on the multi-colored light. I won't lie.
The rest of the house, though, is decorated within and inch of it's life and I'm loving it all. I can let Kennedy have the tree.
So I sat back and bit the head off an innocent little gingerbread man and watched her do the whole thing herself.
And Chris left the tree so tall that the angel literally touches the ceiling.
I hate to say it, because I love a good well-planned tree, but I really like it. It actually doesn't look terrible, it just looks eclectic. Maybe my little helper has learned a thing or two about decorating, and maybe I have too!

Your tree looks like Christmas to me.
Happy Holidays!

I love it! She did a great job. And really, that's what Christmas is all about - being real. The blogs I find I enjoy the most and remember the most are those that are REAL - not posed perfectly every post and picture. :)
Seriously, thank you for this. I didn't put a tree up this year, but if I did it would have looked like yours. My ornaments have no colour scheme...some of them are half fallen apart but I can't bear to part with them. Sometimes blogland can make us feel so inadequate and I think it's important to post things like this that bring everyone back to real life. Merry Christmas.
Awesome tree! Thanks for having the courage to keep it REAL. This year our tree has photos in place of ornaments because our boxes haven't arrived from Canada yet. We like it so much, it may become a tradition!
I love no-theme trees the most. When I was little, I remember my parents decided they wanted a themed tree one year, and I was so sad that my homemade ornaments weren't going to go up. Having a tree "for the kids" is a must.
I think it's lovely. I'm not a themed Xmas tree lover -- they're fine for department stores and mansions; but I like an old fashioned, ornaments with history kind-of tree. Mine was decorated mostly by my 2 students; far from perfect, but lovely none-the-less.
So cute! Pinned!
I agree with all the comments made. It is difficult to see all the attitudes expecting the "perfect tree". Mine is always about the children. I love the way the tree looks when they finish, it makes them happy and that is what makes me happy in return. Lovely!
Actually (but don't tell the other bloggers) this is what a Christmas tree should look like! Ornaments that have meaning to the family, homey, none of this designer stuff. I my not-so-humble opinion! You have chosen the important path with your daughter, good job!
I think it's perfect!
Christmas is the one time of year in which I find the 'themed' and perfectly coiffed and decorated home to be stiff and harsh. I love trees that are full of little momentoes and favourite ornaments. A story! When I was a child, my favourite ornament was a little boy figurine. He was colourful, had orange hair and a red and while scarf and, I believe, a candy cane in his hands. And on his back? These little wings made with wire and covered with white nylon. Every year I looked forward to taking him out and hanging him on the tree, even when the nylon of his wings tore and he started looking more ragged and kitschy than cute. To me, that's what a Christmas tree should be: a big green memory.
Your tree is perfect. I love it!
Ah, I've got the same tree. Christmas is for kids anyways. At least they let me decorate the rest of the house... oh, and your tree looks very beautiful.
It's a super pretty tree and I think she did a great. The ornaments are all spaced really well! Good job Kennedy :)
Oh it is darling- It will seem like no time at all that they don't want to help with Christmas decorating. My boys stopped when they got to be teens and it wasn't cool to decorate!
I like your no-scheme tree. It's pretty with the different ornaments and I'll bet they carry memories. Last year was my first themed tree. I always had mixes of homemade, Hallmark, vintage, you name it. I haven't decided on this year. Our tree isn't up yet, we're awaiting a delivery and need to keep free the route including the tree's place.

I like your tree and think it's just perfect. I also like the mix of white and coloured lights. I've even seen prelit trees like that for sale and considered doing that this year.
The day will come... and so I take joy in my muppet tree... while I can!
It's these moments that build memories and how much more precious are those memories than having a "decorated" tree!!!
We don't have kids ... yet ... but I still love decorating our tree with ornaments we have collected over the years! Your tree is beautiful!

This is the beauty of Christmas ... little hands, multicolored lights and a beautiful tree ... love that you love it :)
It looks great Courtenay! My kid-decorated tree (as well as my "pretty" tree) have both been totally demolished from about 3' down. I've officially given up. All of the presents I had out are also trampled with all the bows ripped off thanks to the baby. I'm just going with it this year-it's futile to fight it.
The tree is pretty! Love the vintage ornaments, especially the blue bell.
Very pretty Courtenay! My tree's light blew out... twice, I gave up. It is decorated and a few ornaments are lying around it on the ground, but there is a dark pit in the middle! LOL
Merry Christmas!

Fun! And pretty.
I feel the same way about colored lights as you, but yet we have them this year. And I love it.
lol This was the only kind of tree we had growing up. (Small house, big family. ;o) And, the only kind of tree I've had with my kids so far. (Small houses, just-starting-out-family. ;o) I definitely like it.
Kennedy did a great job!
I love a kid decorated tree. Ours looks very kid decorated. We have all their ornaments on the tree. I may not be magazine glossy, but is sure is pretty and tells a great story!

The tree made me smile! Love it! :)

I finally let the kids decorate cookies this year... I don't know if I could handle the whole tree!! But you've inspired me. It's adorable. And I bet she had the time of her life. :) Stopping by from Wow Us Wednesdays
