With our new kitchen table arriving soon, this dining room won't be getting too much action this Christmas season.
We'll have our big dinners in the kitchen and probably most of our day-to-day meals too. This dining room gets to become the fun room! The one we can keep pretty and then only use on special occasions, like maybe if we have a special Holiday breakfast for just a few people, or something like that. It's a good thing too. That furniture was made in 1867 and probably could use a break if we want it to last for another 150 years!
I added some simple greenery and a neutral runner, along with some basic clear glass pieces to create a look that's a little bit festive, but will still feel perfect for Winter after the holidays are over.
With all of the clean up that's going to be happening right after Christmas, it will be so nice to have a room that can just stay as-is and be enjoyed a little while longer. Last year I kept most of the greenery up until after Valentine's Day. It was still in great shape and looked beautiful, but I regretfully took it down as we got closer to Spring. I enjoyed it all Winter!

If you're like me and have more wine glasses than people coming for dinner, you can use a few to make really fun tealight holders. They feel a little more fun and special occasion-y than regular votives, but they're so neutral that you really can just set them up and then forget them.
So what do you think? Do you do Winter decorating too or do just move straight from Holiday/Christmas into Spring?
And, P.S., that room you're glimpsing in the background is our front hall. If you'd like to see how that's decorated for the Holidays, you can check it out here!
Oh! And one more thing before you go!
Have you ever heard of a Google+ Hangout? It's a neat new video chat thing where you can have up to 10 people chatting at once and then you can save the video (or not!) and watch it later.
A whole group of fun and talented bloggers, including myself, will be having Google+ Hangouts to talk about Handmade Holiday ideas this week between December 3rd and 7th. If you're interested to watch me being awkward live on camera, mine is scheduled for Thursday the 6th at 1pm Eastern time. I'll be talking about working with fresh cedar! What else?
You'll be able to access it easily if you follow me on Google +. I'll also have the video available in a post later that day right here on the blog.... as soon as I figure out how to do that. Bonus! I'll also have Jessica from Mom 4 Real and Gwen from The Bold Abode lending their wit and talents to our production.
Watch on Thursday if you dare!

Your table looks so pretty, and I love that it can stay that way all winter!

Courtenay, your dining room is lovely. Great idea with the wine glasses. ;) I also decorate for winter after Christmas then for Valentines Day, then back to winter until March when I get a bit springy even though spring weather doesn't really hit here until May!
Looks so pretty - I have also used wine glasses in this way - at Halloween with little pumpkins underneath the glass and votives on the base! Happy Holidays!
I don't know how to thank you! I was just sitting here thinking "how do I get more glow to my table, without using pillar candles?" You answered that question for me! Wine glasses! How genius is that!?! THANK YOU!
This is gorgeous! Featuring it later today.
