Paint Therapy

The other day, I painted a dresser. I've felt so much better every time I look at it ever since.

You don't often get to see in our bedroom because it's half-torn apart and also not really a renovating priority right now, but that's where the dresser is, so today's your lucky day!

I did the most boring, unimaginative thing to it: I painted it white and stuck on some new hardware, and I couldn't be happier with it.

And the white? It's not even a cool distressed chalk-paint antique white, in fact it's the opposite. I went completely un-trendy and did it in a super duper glossy shiny bright white.

I needed that.

Here's how it looked before:

Don't you love how much junk fell out of the drawers in just the one year we've been here? We don't even use this dresser that much, in fact it's going to be going upstairs into the room we've just started working on.

It was given to us by a friend who was moving a couple of years ago and we were just holding on to it until we got around to fixing it up.

Living in this house that's mostly kind of trashed, hasn't been renovated for about 30-40 years in a lot of the rooms, with all these dark finishes that never seem to be really clean kind of gets to me sometimes. Or a lot of the time.

While I love rustic finishes on just about anything, I've been craving the feeling of a bright, clean house lately. You can see why from just this little glimpse of our room.

So I painted the dresser white and got shiny bright new hardware for it too!

I just feel so much better.

And I bet it's was way cheaper than any hour of therapy too!

It looks great! And I love that it isn't "cool distressed chalk-paint antique white." I find myself seeing trends in blogland and thinking I must, must, must love that or I am so un-cool. Pioneer Woman says some funny (and true) things about Pinterest today, btw.

What you said about living in a place with so many needed renovations and it never really feeling clean at times sounds exactly like how I feel. *Most* days I am excited for all the projects to come. Some days it just feels like a big weight on my shoulders and I long for the clean feeling of a brand new home. But the truth is, I've lived in a brand new home and after a few years it had its own "project list." Anyway, good post. Love the bright white and clean look.

I'm all for glossy white! Much easier to keep clean. I'm always wiping down my daughters glossy white desk. ;)

I love it Courtenay! It look great! I have some paint therapy coming my way soon but I'm not sure how happy I am about it!

This SO describes me right now! I've been painting everything in the effort of feeling like things are clean and am going to tackle the woodwork and trims in the next couple of weeks. But tomorrow, we're getting the carpets cleaned. It's amazing how something so simple can contribute in such grand ways! Love your dresser ;)

Love the clean bright white. I've bought a dark wood dresser for storage in my master bath and this looks like just the ticket to transform it. Good job!
