Old freezer basket turned Pottery Barn-style wire basket

It's time for another instalment of "Junk I found around my old house that I decided was cool"!

Today I'll be sharing something I found in the dark, dank, creepy basement. You won't believe what I found! Or maybe you will, because of the title and all.

Anyway, here it is!

We inherited a really cool old freezer with this house. It must be from like 1953 or something, but it still works like a charm! Should I say it? OK, I'm going to say it. They just don't make 'em like they used to!

Anyway, our freezer is packed right to the brim with food, so I took out the organizer baskets and threw them onto our crumbling cement floor and left them there. That was about 6 months ago.

One day not too long ago, I went down there to get some meat or something and I saw them in a whole new light. Aren't they selling wire baskets like that for about a gazillion dollars nowadays at Pottery Barn? Yeah, they are. All I had to do with these was clean them up a bit and paint the white plastic handles dark grey.

For now I just have one of them on my shelf holding a few magazines. To "Fall it up" a little I made this super simple banner using an idea I stole from The Happier Homemaker. Of course her's has cute little mini clothes pins and cheery baker's twine, but I love this idea in general for making anything a little bit festive in a flash.

Here's how it looks with it's other Fallified buddies!

Do you have junk that could be something really cool? I bet you do! Look around your house. You never know what you'll find when you change your perspective a little.

Ha! Good use of your own stuff! I think we should always shop our own homes before we shop the expensive stores. Save some $$$$ and look good doing it!

I think we should 'shop' at your house, Courtenay! You have found the coolest stuff! Is 'coolest' a word? Anyway, your basket came out great with it's cute banner. I love your living room, you have really done a great job!

We had an old freezer like that, too! It ran like a charm. We kept treats for the kids in it - ice cream, etc. and kept it outside on the back porch(Four kids and lots of friends). A skunk figured out that if he showed up when the kids opened the freezer, they would drop whatever they were holding and run away, leaving the treat for him. Clever skunk. So we ended up selling it. It's probably still going strong! xx

LOL! I did the same thing with our wire freezer baskets - Well, not the exact same thing, but I'm using them around the house for decorating and no one knows they're from my deep freezer. LOL! I call it, "Thinking outside the box" - or maybe it's just a great way to upcycle. Whatever. It works. Love yours! Looks fantastic! Visiting from Funky Junk and now following. Love your blog!
