Paper Door Labels and a Different Transfer Technique

I sort of dared myself to try out this little project while I was in the midst of my "sticking things to walls" kick last week.

Now, I do a lot of little projects throughout the course of a day that are total disasters, and this was supposed to be one of them, but it's kind of not!

I made these simple letters to dress up Kennedy's closet door. She thinks it's kind of silly because, well, she knows where her closet it, but I think it looks kind of pretty!

I used some pink and green plaid scrapbook paper to get a fun patterned effect. I thought it was maybe a bit of a step up from plain vinyl for a room like this. Then I used the same starch and iron method that I'd been using all week. Presto!

Now, a funny story about how I got those letters so perfect (without a fancy shmancy cutting machine) and the graphic transfer technique that I used.

What I did, first of all, was to create my letters in Word, print them out onto waxed paper and them press them onto the scrapbook paper. Then I had a perfect shape that was easy to cut out using scissors.

OK, so then I realized that I could have just printed a backwards image (That I could create in Picmonkey) right onto the scrapbook paper. Silly girl.

I've been trying this wax paper transfer thing a bit since I saw it somewhere, but honestly it hasn't worked for me on the flat surfaces that seem to work for everyone else. Too smeary.

But on a porous surface, like paper, fantastic! OK, so in this project it was kind of a waste of time and an extra step. If I think about what I learned though, and the multitude of other possibilities - say for transferring to fabric perhaps, well it's not a loss at all!

So long story short: I made a pretty sign for Kennedy's closet door using paper letters.

And now I have a million more project ideas.

Courtenay, first of all, the door is gorgeous! The letters look very nice and what a good way to transfer them. Plus, you can change them if you want as they are not permanent. Love that! xx
