A Friendlier Front Door

OK, so this is actually our side door, but it's the one everyone uses for now.

This is one of those little ideas that makes my friends and family think I'm a little nuts. There are probably many of those. It makes me happy though, and it's in the name of making our house feel a little happier too.

We have this rickety screen door leading to our mudroom, that you get to by going up a set of rickety steps on the side of our house. The whole set up isn't rickety as in, old and charming, more just oldish and in disrepair. And there are spiders. But that's for another post.

The previous owners had added these little stick-on warning signs all over the door, for a feeling of security, I guess. I get it, but they're really really unwelcoming and ugly to look at, and that matters to me. OK, well I get the dog sign and the alarm system sign, but the soliciting? Who's going to solicit way out here? That would be some serious exercise for that poor door-to-door salesman.

So I got out my tape and my chalkboard spray paint and I changed them!

And the signs even worked! When the UPS guy came last week, he came and knocked on the inside door to the kitchen instead of banging away out here where I can't hear him.

I did get a few paint spots on the door, but those seemed to wipe off pretty easily. And clearly this door's days are numbered.

Might as well have some fun with it before we go ripping it out!

got a kick out of the way you put how your friends and family think you're nuts. If they're like mine, it doesn't take much of a different "angle" to make them wonder! Thanks for the charming post.

Of course it matters! That's not silly at all. And you came up with quite the simple and elegant solution.

Cute idea - when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life gives you ugly signs, make chalk signs!
