That Horsey Pillow I've been talking about making forever.

Hey, remember back a few months ago when I was working on Kennedy's room a whole bunch? Well, I'm still plugging away at it. About a month ago I made a rustic stable sign for her closet and she decided she'd also like some kind of a horse pillow for her bed. No problem. Easy peasy.

But then it didn't happen. Priorities and such happened instead.

Then I found an idea on a fantastic blog for making a quick pillow slipcover in the style I'm about to show you. And I kept the tab open so I could make it and give them credit. But apparently I'm not the only one in this house, so it got closed. If you know who had this great idea, let me know so I can really give them credit. For real this time!

So here's how mine turned out:

I whipped this up in about 45 minutes one evening using:

-A flour sack dish towel (Pack of 5 for $7 at Walmart)
-A sharpie
-Some leftover dollar store ribbon
-A free clip art print-out of a horse head

This slipcover is open on the two sides and tied up with ribbon. I just cut my flour sack to size, sewed a hem on each side, then folded it in half and sewed it together at the bottom.

For the horsey image, I just stuck the print out under the fabric and traced away with my Sharpie.  The fabric is crazy see-through so it was really easy. You won't believe how easy it is.

Of course, since it's so see-through, you have to use a white pillow form, but that's what I had, so it worked out.

At this point, I started to get all antsy and excited so I just hot-glued the ribbons in place. I'm not picky, I just wanted to see how it would look!

Here's how it looks in-place. I've been thinking about adding a few more frames to that gallery wall, maybe in a dark brown, maybe a few white too. I don't know, something's not quite right. Maybe we need some chair rail in here too.

It's dangerous for me to be in this room. I go straight to my crazy place when I start thinking of all the things that bug me.

I think it's best to just enjoy the little improvements that I've been making, step by step, or at least try to.

Like the fact that it's actually clean in here for 5 minutes!

Now that's the real accomplishment here!

OK, it's clean-ish. Any bets on how long that pillow stays white in a seven year old's room? At least it's washable!

I think this one win's the prize as my favorite project for June! I'm linking this one up at Traci's best of June party!

Linking this one up to Shannon's pinning party as well! Pin It

What a great idea and you would never know it was so easy! I really like the bed, it is very unusual. The black and white look great with the rest of the linens. xx

Love this pillow and the whole room! I've been working on a gallery wall for my 8 year old but now that we're moving, it's all on hold. I'm definitely pinning this for a future project! Great job!

Clean for five minutes? Sounds like a reason to celebrate to me!

Your horse pillow is just darling. And what a good idea to trace through the fabric! I like making things with a trusty Sharpie--I just might need to give this technique a try!

Found this via the Pinning Party, and I think that I got distracted by all of your great crafty posts! Lol. You've really done a great job with your house, even if you have a spot outside that isn't finished. My husband has one of those, that no matter how many times I try and clean, always seems to sprout a mess again. Great job on the pillow!
