My Giant Kitchen Chalkboard

This, my friends, is an idea post. Not an execution post. Not a how-to. And it's about my giant chalkboard that I made a couple of months ago.

My giant chalkboard that I finally got hung up in the kitchen on the blank wall where I needed something cheery. And then I left it there and did nothing.

I'm no great chalkboarder, you see. I tried a little quote up there, which I loved, but I did not love my handwriting. So I took to the Google and looked up ideas. I saw some where people had painted their bedroom walls with chalkboard paint and had drawn in the headboard and wall hangings and lamps, etc. that they wish they had there. Brilliant!

So I thought, naturally, why not just draw in what I hope to have up on that wall one day in the far distant future when I renovate my kitchen? Maybe.

Oh, yeah. I'm no artist either. At least not with chalk. This stuff is harder than it looks!

So what it's supposed to be is a couple of thick, chunky shelves, with a collection of cake plates, a ginger jar, a bowl of fluffy hydrangeas, and a little picture. That's what it's supposed to be. Who's that cute girl in the next room there?

Oh, there she is! She heard the camera going. It's not much of a ta-da moment, though.

But I really like the idea!

And it's still pretty cute, even if it is a mess. Pin It

I think your board looks great! I still draw stick people, so I'm really impressed. I use my chalkboard in my kitchen to welcome people when they come to visit. (ex. Bill - Welcome to Bird Nest Cottage) That's about where my talent ends and that is why I think your board looks so great.

I know what you mean about struggling to find something for a big chalkboard. My church was getting rid of one that I nabbed and repainted. At Christmas I drew the music to "Angels We Have Heard On High" on it, but afterward....until I saw a compass how-to on a blog and did that! I did a post on it, if you want a look.

Very cute :) I wish I had room in my kitchen for a chalkboard. And I could tell what your drawing was - you did a great job! I know chalk is not easy to use - I've tried the 'art with chalk' thing too. Don't sell yourself short - that looks awesome!
