Stamped Rustic Horsey Sign

We're in the home stretch on Kennedy's closet renovation. Hey, it's only taken us about 7 months now! Actually, Chris just needs to reinstall the beautiful old baseboards and it'll be pretty much done. When he gets the time to do it, it'll probably take him about 22 minutes. Unfortunately, I've gotten really excited about my front hall renovation lately, so I've been taking up all of Chris' time with that!

Kennedy has been saying she wants her room to be more of a horsey room, so I thought I'd add a little bit of horseyness by making a sign for her closet. It's all looking pretty shiny and new in there, so I thought it could use a little rusticness too.

Out to the wood pile I went!

I found a few good candidates, but I thought this one would work best in the closet. Isn't she a beaut?

I love these notches in the top.

And this green mossy edge! You won't be able to see this, but I'll know it's there. Oh, I'll know.

I often use foam stamps for lettering on my signs, but I usually use paint applied to the stamp with a brush for a more hand-painted look.

This time I just stamped right into a regular old black ink pad, making sure to get a little ink on the sides of the stamp. I wanted it to really look "stamped" just to see how it would turn out.

Turns out I like it!

I finished it off with a very hand-painted looking arrow. Notice the squiglyness of it. That was totally intentional too... um, yeah!

It's living in the dining room for now, but soon enough (OK, probably in like three months), it will have a home in Kennedy's brand new beautiful closet and I'll show you then.
