Pretty Up Your Plastic Pots!

You know when you go to the nursery and buy plants and they come in those basic plastic pots? You know how you can't wait to get the plants out of those pots and into something a little nicer as soon as you possibly can? Then you know how you throw those pots out (or recycle them) the moment you're done with them?

Don't!

I've been throwing them out for years without ever having this idea cross my mind. Until one day it did.

If you buy plants like I do in the Spring and Summer, these little pots are free and plentiful around your house.

I was starting to get the deck all cleaned up for the season and I found mine in this pile left behind by the old home owners.

You can whip these things up in a few minutes to match whatever mood you're in, and then if it doesn't work out, whatever.

I just dressed up a few little mini ones, but I have some bigger ones too, that I'll play with as I start to get more actual plants to put out here.

All I used was some craft paint, twine, hot glue, and some conduit pieces that I had left over from my DIY magazine holders. I made the little polka dots with a pencil eraser dipped in light brown paint.

You can probably tell that our deck needs a lot of work. It'll take any extra form of cuteness it can get right now.

We get some crazy wind storms around here, so anything that goes on the deck needs to be easily brought inside, quickly. Having my little pots on a tray will help with that, plus don't you love it? It was my birthday present to me!

I hope you'll think twice next time you go to throw out your plain nursery pots! If you get a little creative, you can really turn them into something nice. You can never have enough pretty planters around.
